Greetings all, new to this forum community, and as of tonight, still sporting an OG droid with Steeldroid 10.5 and chevy1's 1100 kernel... anyone still remember those days? I've run many roms from eclair to froyo to GB to MIUI... I have run rooted and gone through several phases of flash addiction for the last two years.

Anyway, I am strongly leaning towards getting a RZR Maxx tomorrow to replace this venerable old D1... Thought hard about the Nexus, and have read a lot of opinions here and elsewhere on both sides of the fence, but I need a phone professionally too, ya know? So, it's most probably the RAZR Maxx for me :-)

I've never used a locked bootloader phone - all my rooting has been on the OG Droid and the B&N Nook Color... Seems straightforward enough, but also a bit daunting, new vocabulary and procedures... Any advice?

Thanks and I'm sure I'll see you around these parts :-)

Welcome to the forums, I came from the OG Droid as well. Even though we have a locked bootloader, the devs have done a amazing job creating these roms and themes that sometimes you don't even think about the bootloader. The lingo used was a little confusing to me at first but after a couple days of reading and asking questions, I was well on my way to rooting, flashing roms, and loving life with my RAZR. I actually have learned more from this site and rooting due to the locked bootloader than I ever knew when I had my OG Droid. If all else fails and your not sure of something, just ask and there are tons of people that are willing to help. Again, welcome to the forums and enjoy your time here.

I would recommend reading through the "How to", hacks, and developement threads first. Most everything you could think of asking has been covered and asked there already. There are some great walkthroughs on rooting and setting up ADB as well as other useful tools that will become your life lines.

I came from the OG DROID as well. I was more of a Sourcery man myself... with slayher v1.6 1100mhz lv kernel... tough to beat!

Welcome to droidrzr! Asks questions. Search threads. Read OPs. Be kind. Please rewind. But of critical import, have fun :)

Well, I did it. Bought the RAZR Max yesterday. Been too busy with work to do more than root using DROID RAZR Utility 1.6 this evening... but it feels pretty darn good even stock! What next? Let the adventure commence!
Been up since 5, time to sleep for tonight...

Congrats on getting the Maxx. I have been stock for a while and don't mind it. There are some damn good roms out there though. I have wanted tonflash some but at thisnpoint decided to wait for the official OTA to hit. Once that does and roms are made, I will be a crackflasher again.

Welcome aboard. I'm personally sitting on stock myself right now (which drives me nuts) waiting for ICS to hopefully hit soon. I would have expected to hear about a soak test if it was coming Tuesday like VZW is calling for, but crazy things have happened.... like still having a locked bootloader and not being on ICS yet for example.

Whew, glad to get rid of so much bloat ware! I rooted so I could freeze/delete a bunch of bloat in Tibu. In the OG days, there wasn't this much crap preinstalled. Then, google play tried to load it all back up! It's a brave new world :P

I don't mind the Google junk nearly as much as the Verizon apps. Vcast is such a waste.
