Hey all,
Im new to all this so bear with me. I recently rooted my razr GSM version and installed safestrap and made a backup. When i followed tutorials online to install i rom i was unsuccessful. Everytime i flash any more the installation goes smoothly but after i reboot, the motorola splash screen pops and then then safestrap recovery option mode and then my phone screen goes blank. I have to hard reset and disable safe mode to restore back to the stock rom. I even installed a GSM patch which i installed after installing the rom. this didnt do anything either. Im getting really frustrated that i cant flash new roms to my razr! Please help!
(bear in mind its not a CDMA version, its a GSM and i bought it from dubai, im running 2.3.6 gingerbread and safe strap 1.7)

Most roms on this forum are made for CDMA phones. If you are looking for GSM roms and support for GSM razr, i sugget going to xda-developers.com as they have much more support for the gsm razr.

Here is a link to get you started. Someone on XDA ported a bunch of CDMA roms to GSM

The CDMA version of Eclipse will not work on a GSM RAZR. However, if someone over at xda ported eclipse over to GSM, that will work. You would have to look at xda to find out

Dude, on GSM, our partitions are different from the CDMA users, we have to use bootstrap instead of safestrap, you need to delete ALL safestrap files before attempting to install bootstrap, i would recomand a fastboot back to stock and then install bootstrap

Bummer.. rule of thumb, always research and make sure you know what you are doing before flashing..

Your lucky u didn't brick your phone.

1) Download SBF Files from this link (Retail Asian RAZR)

2) Download RSD Lite 5.6 from this link

3) Install RSD Lite, Extract sbf files to a folder on your comp, open RSD Lite and browse to the folder you extracted SBF files to. Only 1 file should show up in the window. Click it and hit start. After about 10-15 min your phone should reboot into a stock operating system :)

Your external SD card will NOT be wiped and all contact will remain intact. I am unsure about what will happen to internal memory.

internal sd/games/apps WILL NOT be wiped after rsd, you have to choose "factory reset" in the recovery menu, after rsd is done, your phone will reboot into recovery, click both volup and voldown at the same time to allow you to choose the options, after that scroll down to the "factory reset" option and enter it using the power key, after reset, you go back and click reboot phone, it will reboot into the fresh, stock firmware, from there , you have to go thru all of google's sign in crap (click the android to begin,signin,motocast...etc) after that, root your phone and get the bootstrap apk, install the apk, open the app, click install recovery, after its done, click reboot recovery, now you are in recovery, wipe everything(not your screen) before installing your rom of choice, I would recomand black widow ics or gummy, they both can be installed on gsm razrs with the patch.
lastly, i would like to thank Alex for the asia fastboot files, I have been searching high and low for it... :D

This is awesomely in depth! I've been having the same issue with my razr, using safestrap and not bootstrap must be the problem. I was afraid to use bootstrap, because there was no safe fail with it, but after reading this, I might find some time on the weekend to revert back to stock, and try re-root, bootstrap recovery and load gummys rom with gsm patch.

I have an Australian phone, per chance, could you link me to the similar rsd files and so on to load stock roms please?

Cheers
Ryan

you dont have to, just boot into ap fastboot, use rsd lite, then after that, the phone will boot into recovery, scroll down and choose factory reset. That will remove safestrap (and any other apps)
