Well, this WAS my girls car this afternoon after some hillbilly (no offense John) decided to crash his drunken a$$ into her and then proceed to back up and drive away.

Thank GOD she was able to get a license plate number and she was not hurt.

But still, this has to be the WORST kind of person. She actually was driving behind this guy traveling from one of her job's offices to another. She happened to notice that this guy was swerving all over the place and hitting his brakes very hard and abruptly. So, like anyone with some common sense, she decided to pass him, and get the hell away from him. This was on a 3 lane road, so she passed him, and got all the way over to the right because he right turn was just a couple lights ahead. (She was less than 1 mile from her office.)

Well, Mr. Green Ford Ranger didn't see ALL of the traffic stopped at a red light and plowed right into the back of her stopped car. She actually saw his stupid a$$ in her mirror approaching and braced herself. Well, she was all ready to get out of the car and look at the damage when she heard the crunching noise of this guys truck separating from her car as he backed up and then proceeded to drive up the curb and onto the shoulder around her (and the 3 cars in front of her, his cigarette still in hand) to the light and turn right and take off!

Amazing the world we live in that crap like this just happens. And why am I SO SURE that even though she got a plate number, and even though she has good insurance and EVEN THOUGH she was on the clock that this is gonna end up costing us money!

She's ok thus far, the adrenaline is wearing off and the aches and pains are coming through, but HOPEFULLY nothing too permanent.

Wow she should still get checked out. Sometimes neck and back injuries don't show for many days.

From My S4 Dev Edition

She's gonna go get looked at tomorrow because her neck and shoulder are beginning to hurt. That's typical in a car accident, you get yourself all tensed up (especially if you see it coming) and then with the adrenaline rush, your bodies natural pain-killers numb the immediate discomfort. She's getting sore tonight and is gonna get looked at tomorrow. She works in a radiology office (no less) and said "Maybe Ill have them scan me tomorrow". And I told her, with potential workers comp stuff, she should avoid that conflict of interest LIKE THE PLAGUE and get looked at by a neutral party.

Ugh... Freakin idiot. Middle of the day no less.

Glad she's okay man. Good luck. It's gonna be a mess for sure

The mess is just beginning, you have no clue.

Thanks for all the kind sentiments guys, I will be sure to pass on the word.

I'm glad she's alright! Glad she got a license plate, I hope you get to be able to make that guy reimburse you/and or her for this. This really sucks.

Sorry it had to happen. We're here to help though! :)

I had an accident like that. Got hit from behind by a ditzy 16 girl who wasn't paying attention. Ended up have neck and back problems for 3 months.

I went to a chiropractor instead of a MD. Best decision ever. I watched my back and neck realign in the xrays.

Ok so update

We reported the accident to her insurance company (State Law, within 48 hours) last night and they said an adjuster would be contacting her today.

The woman from Progressive calls her today and says since she didn't have collision insurance, they wouldn't be paying to fix her car (well, duh). And as opposed to what I always thought was the norm (your insurance fixes your car and collects the money from the other drivers insurance) they told her that based on the license plate and the police report, the other driver has Geico and that she was gonna forward the info to Geico and then DEPENDING ON HIS coverage, that will determine how/how much she's reimbursed, including if they'll provide her with a rental car until her car is fixed (doubt it) or replaced.

So this is just becoming more and more fun. I sure as hell hope the police issued a summons to the other driver yesterday. This guy better burn for this.

That is in fact the norm.  The other driver's insurance has to pay.  That's how it worked in my wife's case last month. BUT, your insurance company should advocate for you.  Otherwise you risk getting screwed around.  It's a huge PITA.

Car accidents are always an hassle. In February I got hit and had to prove to their insurance that it was their fault. I have known people that had to wait months for the insurance to pay out. Hopefully this all have been resolved by now.

luckily my insurance paid me upfront with their initial estimate amount less my deductible. so i could get it repaired while they dealt with the other insurance, it took me 4 months to get my deductible paid because it went into arbitration.

Tucstwo, I'm not sure if this is still an issue or not or if it has been completely resolved. If it is still pending, just to be on the safe side of things... I would suggest your girlfriend to contact Progressive and request her "Auto Insurance Policy Contract." While the Progressive Rep said that something is "not covered," that is not always the case, and while the other party is fully-liable if that is the case as it is presented, then it is still safe to have a copy of Insurance Policy Contract. The thing is with Insurance Policy Contracts there are nearly always loopholes, if your told something is not covered under collision there maybe a way to get covered under a different exception that falls under collision. I spent many years in the insurance industry (health primarily,) which I was always finding loopholes to get things covered for my clients, and the best way to get a decision reversed is to "appeal it". Either way reviewing the contract reveals a comprehensive approach to fixing a problem if one ever arises, Customer Service Reps do not look at Contracts, they look at Summaries and most do not understand the underlining terms.

Glad to hear that your lady is okay, afterall that matters the most.
