What's a loop device?  What are you trying to do?

I was using a Linux installer I was going to install a Linux distro not sure what a loop device is. Maybe it meant loop files I'm really not sure at all.

Hmm I think you would install that on your computer, not your Bionic...?

Tldr: think of virtual drives in windows, for mounting iso's The app you found is for installing a Linux build ontop/beside android, to chroot into the environment. A loop device is used to create a block device (like a virtual HDD or partition) from a file, usually a img file in this case. It acts as if you're mounting another disk with that distro already setup, to a folder/point you point it to. Except you just have the img file, not another disk. You've probably used them (loop devices) when you mount an iso in windows to a "virtual cd drive". To the question, i can't actually answer that. I "believe" the bionic stock kernel can support it, but ive never bothered to try it. I'm sure someone else here would know for sure. I have a chroot setup on my stock based (eclipse 1.3 ICS) ROM, but I wanted to install it in a partition i set up on a 32g sdcard. Try it out, it may work. Couldn't see any harm in what you're doing. ps. I suggest first loading a linux distro in a virtual machine, or live usb at least. Not to offend in any way, but judging on your other post, you may not have been in a linux environment yet, apart from androids twist on one. sent from a Bionic

I believe a website called linux on android has some good tips about doing this setup though. I can also post my notes when i clean up and redo my setup if you'd like.
