First a big thank you to the Moderator who opened this space up!

So I'd love hear from anyone who already got your ultra or maxx, I'm try really hard not to jump ship and get an s4, so I'd really like to see what the emerging community thinks for the new droids.

Missing the SD cards?

Dose 720 HD really a noticeable difference over 1080 in the real world?

What do you think of the capacitive buttons?

I went and played with the MAXX today and like the look and feel and definitely enjoy the active display notifications. The notifications, trusted Bluetooth unlock and ability to send and receive texts from your computer are all pulling me to this phone. I just need to confirm I can use wifi tether and I'm in. Moto X disappointed me with battery size, once you go MAXX...

I got the Maxx and I am very impressed with it.  For the sake for clarity, this forum is for both the Ultra and the Maxx, correct? :D

Yea I can only imagine it is since there wasn't a different forum for the og maxx or the Max HD so this should be the same thing.

And storage--just for accuracy sake 'cause it still makes sense to keep in one place IMO.

I'm waiting for step son to activate his Ultra. Looks like I'll be going to work before he does it, though.

Main first impression? Thin! Will comment on screen this eve, I hope!

Step son is back at Dad's 'til tomorrow. His Mom said he really liked it and basically stayed on it all day cheesing. Wish he was here so I could play with it. She has the S3 and says she was impressed with speed and screen.

I'm not an S4 troll - it's what I have to compare to... so forgive me if I reference that a lot.

I can't figure out if I like it more than my S4 or not (got the Maxx).  The touchless controls are lacking honestly... if you want to call someone, you still have to touch "speaker", which I'm assuming you'd want to use if you're calling via voice commands.  If you want to text someone, you still have to preview the text and hit send - they need to make that more interactive.  Playing music is hit or miss, and again typically requires some physical interaction beyond the initial command.  Being able to wake it with a voice command is really freaking cool, especially from across the room... but since a majority of the commands require interaction after the initial command, it renders that feature somewhat useless for now.  Active notifications are cool, but only show the latest.  On the S4, I control when the "active notification" comes on, still without "touching", though not without being close to it obviously, and it also shows me everything that has a pending notification, though without the details... 6 in one, half a dozen in the other I guess.  I find it interesting that the S4's features were called gimmicks, when I find a lot of them more useful (and more consistent) than the Maxx's so far.  Public perspective I guess...

Moto Assist is pretty awesome for driving... and pretty awesome that it detects you're driving by your acceleration!  It's super helpful, but needs the ability to send a full text back instead of just "I'm driving, will get back to you".  But at least it's completely voice interactive.

Camera is much improved and super fast, but still typical Motorola.  I think they just must use bad camera hardware... pictures can look great sometimes, and blurry other times, and tend to look cold... though I've been told the S4 oversaturates, so maybe my perspective is skewed.  Anything below well-lit will look like an over-processed grainy mess, even if it does take in more light.  Flash shots are pretty weak, especially compared to the S4.  But it is super fast.  I would say it's MUCH improved over previous Moto devices, but still not in the same league as the S4 or iPhone 5 when it comes to consistency and quality of photos.

External speaker is awesome... screen is gorgeous... I thought I'd be disappointed in the screen coming from the S4, but I haven't at all.  It's great.

It's super super fast and smooth - no lag anywhere... barely the occasional "jitter" only when downloading / installing a lot of apps.  If someone did a blind usage test, I guarantee this phone would be deemed to have a better processor next to the S4 and even the One, without doing benchmarks.

Despite my complaints, I still love it and can't decide which to stick with.  Ultimately I'll probably end up with the S4 just because a good camera is so important to me... but I'm probably in the minority on that reason.

I got a s4 (twice actually) And they both ran really hot. I was using tempmonitor and it would run like 135-150 after 30mins of browsing and it hit 180 when I did an antutu benchmark. Have u noticed you bring hot quick? I'm wondering if my luck is really that bad.

It gets pretty hot when I'm using the camera extensively... especially video.  It gets moderately hot if I'm doing a lot at once or downloading a lot with the screen on.  I never measured, but I remember from the OG Droid days roughly what your temp references felt like.  I don't know about 180, but it's probably gotten into the 130 range before.  So far it hasn't been an issue.  If I had to use the camera for a long period of time, I could see it possibly being a problem.

The only time the Maxx has gotten even remotely warm was on the wireless charger... which I guess makes sense, assuming power somehow conducts through the back cover while charging.

Correction to my statement about Active Notifications, sorry about that... it DOES show more than just the latest.  It doesn't show all the details of more than the latest (well, sometimes it does depending on the size of the details), but it shows there's something there!

Anything more than 120 is insane, IMO...I have gotten my Maxx up to 102 and that's all I've seen so far...

Oops, my bad...I had an s4 previously as well, and never saw that above 106...and that was while doing extensive web use while on the charger...

I have to agree... I especially with the camera remarks... The camera is very disappointing to me as I have a 2 year old running around the house and when I try to take a picture, even in decent lighting, it comes out super dark. I don't necessarily think it's hardware though, as it initially looks fine, but the auto focus kicks in almost immediately and drains all the light out of the shot. But, all in all, it beats the HD camera (with it's 15 second delay)

Other than the camera, I find this device to be excellent... And I'm coming from S4 and Note 2. I would have to say, benchmarks are lower than the S4 definitely, but in usage, the S4 has little stuttery lag spots that I have not seen on the Maxx. I am now wondering if I should go back to the S4 or listen to Nitro and get the One, lol
