Went and saw the Droid Mini today at Verizon and it was impressive. I'm a RAZR M owner and it seemed to be slightly better that what I have. A little more screen space and what looks to be a better rear speaker. Yes - I know the specs are better.

So - I'm thinking about recommending it to a couple of friends who are up for an upgrade. Wanting feedback from people who actually bought it and can tell me what it's really like.

First - does it actually work? Wondering if there are any major bugs/annoyances that I should know about. How is the battery life? My RAZR M battery life is "a little better than sufficient". What I'd like to hear is that the mini is at least a little better. What I generally am looking to hear is "The Mini is like a newer cooler faster version of the RAZR M with a little better battery life" and no annoying features of anything significant that was taken away.

Also - is there anything new and cool that I must have?

Also - since it has voice command to turn it on, it's not really ever "off". I was wondering if it has a real off level where it was really off. By off I mean that the NSA isn't able to listen off. I know it has to be "on" a little it to look for power button press and a battery charge meter.

So - who owns this device?

All 3 devices (4 including the X) have the "always on" feature which can be turned off. Then you can use phone as normal for search, etc, hitting the mic to talk, and so on... We just got the ultra but I haven't got to play with it yet.

Bought it on Sunday and love it.  Upgraded from bionic - the screen's the same size, though the overall device is significantly smaller.

Dramatically faster than the bionic, despite running custom ROMs on the bionic and stock on the mini.

Battery life is significantly better than bionic - went 12+ hours of pretty heavy use, including 4G web surfing and had about 15% remaining.  Bionic would have been dead at 6-7 hours without a recharge along the way.  Today, have gone 7 hours so far, mostly on Wifi, with only some email checking and a couple phone calls (plus all the background activity it's continually doing), and still have 80% remaining.

Always listening thing is OK, but you have to speak pretty loudly to activate it.  Once activated, voice search is good (and works great with bluetooth), but still somewhat limited in functions it can perform.  For example, "what's my next appointment" works great.  "What's my first appointment tomorrow", not so much.

Coolest new feature is environment awareness - you take it out of your pocket and the screen turns on and shows you any notifications before you even unlock it.  Sounds like not a big deal, but I'm already completely hooked on it.

Can't get google now to work... get a network connection error (despite having a perfectly find network connection).  I'm going to try a factory reset to see if I can fix it.

Otherwise, no complaints... very happy so far.

Before FDR try clearing data/cache in Google Search and possibly even removing or checking sync on some of your accounts (if you have multiple).
