From my experience with PA, it's in the hybrid settings. You have to change the transparency for the launcher itself.

It says I. Hybrid to not to try transparent nav bar here. I have apex pro and there is no setting for nav bar trans

Maybe I wasn't clear. Go to Hybrid settings, then apps on the left (pull out the drawer), then scroll down to find Apex which should be greyed out. Tap it, then where it says "nav bar" or "status bar", change the black to transparent. This is how I have always done it.

camcorder works. what doesn't seem to be working is that my desktop setup won't "stick", ie every so often my apps and folders get a bit shuffled or deleted or rearranged. i really want this to work out, soooo many options in one rom!  still need to test the wifi tether which wasn't working for me in any of the other 4.2.2 or 4.3 roms i've tried.

I have initially gotten a few force closes, but everything seemed to continue to work. Is there a way to change the email (exchange) view that I am missing? The folders on the left are easily readable, but the actual emails are not and are way too small. Can I just replace the email and exchange apk's on this from a different rom?
