So my mom has an upgrade due and she wants to upgrade to the MAXX (My current phone) and I have been dying to get a Gnex (for my own reasons ;)) so I suggested her to just get the gnex and swap with me so everyone will be happy :) It is not FULLY official however I want to know before I get it, is there anything I should be aware of??? (Besides the "bad radios", plasticness, etc.)

This is NOT for bagging on the gnex, I just need to know things like what would be the best site to go to for the best support and what ROMs/kernals do you suggest to check out, etc.

Thanks ahead of time! :)

Definitely would stink losing a member of the community. I had a Gnex for a month and it died every time I went to bed because it didn't get signal on my bedside table where my Razr did. Even the extended battery didn't solve this. Be aware that the radio really does make a huge difference. I hope you have a better experience with the Gnex than I did. I am never getting a Samsung again.

I really believe that the only up-side that the Gnex has over the Maxx is the boot loader. I know many people with the Gnex and I recently got an offer to trade straight up with someone for my RAZR that I turned down. We are getting the OTA soon, and lots of cool ROMs will be developed. Stick with your Maxx, you'll regret it if you dont.

I can speak from experience because I currently still have both the Razr MAXX and the GNex. While both great phones I couldn't put up with the GNex which led to me buying the RAZR. With normal use there were days on the Gnex I would be looking for a charger well before lunch time. I was doing great if I could make it 8 hours! Well Im going to post a screen shot of what I got with the Razr MAXX on a fresh install of build 211... is plain to see the difference. As far as the build quality of the GNex... while its not the build quality of the RAZR its really not bad imo... its standard Samsung. Now to the radios. I can sit at my house... which i may add is in a pretty poor reception area.. with 2-3 bars of LTE on the Razr, while if any LTE on the Gnex... 1 bar. Typically the Gnex is rocking 3g! As statef previously the only real big perk of the Nexus is the unlocked bootloader. While the screen on the Gnex imo does look a little better... I really cant complain about the Razr. Thats up to you to decide.

Ok so heres the screen shot of the Razr rocking tge safestrap 211 build. This is with no tweaking what so ever! I wanted to get a base line for were it stood stock. I was more then impressed! Note you can see I had just put it on the charger because i was getting ready to crash for the night.

I also had a GNEX the signal was so terrible VZW swapped it for the RAZR. The radio of MOTO is superior.

I agree.. after owning the gnex and a few other sammys, I wont give sammy another dime till they prove that they can build a phone that you can actually use as a phone.

There are definitely pros and cons to either choice. Personally, I jumped at the chance to get a Nexus device. However, after owning a GNex for about a month, I was totally burned out on the Samsung radios ... a plus is that its nice you can flash the various radio versions on the GNex, but no matter I ended up with crappy reception even when I can see the VZW tower off in the distance. So, fortunately, I found a guy who had a month old Razr Maxx and wanted to swap for my GNex. Yes, I miss some aspects of the GNex since there's a lot more to flash including lots of various kernel tweaks. But, after owner my Maxx for a couple months, you would have to SHOOT me to ever consider swapping back to a Sammy phone ... until they have proven reliable radios ... period.

Other than the super uber crappy Sammy radios, I loved the GNex ... if you don't mind a 'pretty' phone that is a nice desk ornament, go for it.
