It may be, especially at 400. We bought one last year at Bestbuy for $829 and its all aluminum and has a very nice screen. Popped my 128gb ssd in it and the thing FLIES... very nice pc for the wife. Build quality is awesome! Idk ive bought and sold (worked at bestbuy in the computer department for two years) enough $350-420 models and they seem to have the most problems. Especially the bargin bin toshiba and HP.

I can tell you that if you buy a laptop from bestbuy with a $100 or more instant rebate it will be at or below cost. So you wont find a better deal. I always buy my laptops from bestbuy (and build my desktops)

I agree really. I've had 2 laptops. One I paid $400 (Acer) and it was sent in 6 times. Luckily I had an extended warranty through Walmart and once it finally kicked in, they sent me a check for what I paid for it.

I also had a Compaq I got 3 years ago. The motherboard went bad in a couple years. That one was around $500

Haha yeah, I know technology advances pretty fast. I remember my first computer had a 20 gig hard drive and Windows 98... and I thought I could never fill up that much.

I didn't mean that I thought I could spend $500 and get a future proof system, I just want to get something that will meet my needs for a few years and still be usable.

I want a computer that will be usable for a few years and won't be so obsolete that I can't run future programs with it.

It will be a general use PC for school, downloading files and video streaming, but also I might run Linux on it and partition the hard drive, I may install a graphics card in it and do some gaming, and I need to be able to use the Razr Utilities and the like (which is why I wanted at least 4 gigs of ram).

I keep my stuff for awhile and take care of it, but I also use it.

you cannot generally install a graphics card into a laptop. Laptop are not designed to be upgraded, except for ram(and not always that either). If you want it to play games you must buy one with discreet graphics.

Thats why i suggest a decent amd cpu. If it has a trinity apu it will be good enough for medium graphics in most games. Otherwise I would jump right up to a midrange discrete gpu, while intel may have the fps for games reviewers say it isnt fluid like the amd parts.

Actually, I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on this:

Intel Core i5
6 gigs of ram
750 gig hard drive

all for $500

I would be weary of a dual core. I pegged out my previous dual core workstation laptop fairly easily. I think you can find a deal on a quad core in the $500 - $600 range.

That will be just fine. Should do everything you need except gaming.

I was talking to a friend of mine that has a computer company and he confirmed that Walmart sells factory seconds. So I was looking at this one:

There's an extra $50 rebate also. He was telling me that to get a laptop that could game would be at least $700...

They said since I didnt got to hp.com and look my device up for recall they couldnt help me....no email no calls no nothing! They sell faulty devices and when they need to be recalled they screw you! I was 4 days outside of the recall date and the idiots wanted $360 to fix THEIR FAULTY equipment...

Sorry.. when this happened I was on the phone for over 4 hours and they kept transferring me. A bunch of slimy bastards is what they are!

I had a similar experience with Dell. Custom ordered a $1400 computer a few years ago and it crashed 30 days later. I talked on the phone for several hours per call and support actually had me opening up the computer and troubleshooting. I got mad and sent it back and they received it. Then they lost it in their warehouse and tried to charge me.... plus their tech support is all Indian people with American names, so you can't understand them.

I've had much better luck with HP, but I'd take Asus, Sony, and Toshiba also

Well about 4 years ago i bought and still have today my favorite laptop ive ever owned. My son dropped it one day and broke the monitor. Anyway it was the first i series or at least a couple of years before i saw other companies using it. You know the I 3. I 5 and I8. Mine was MSI windows premium ed. I5 and lots of other good stuf. It is still faster than any other computer ive ever owned. I will stick with this company. I forgot who makes them but look them up. MSI.. nice. And priced right. Fast...i use the hdmi and hook it to my 32 sony..lol my monitor rocks!

Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2Edit. Im not sure the specs because ive had so many. But i think this one was only 4 gig ram. 350 hard mem with the i5 turbo balls speed. Lol anyway has nice graphics card and when i bought it i told the guy at circiut city i needed a computer for my music writing studio and had to run cake walk. It does now. And able to be fast as hell. I had a Droid back then too and began hacking the hell out of it. Then started buying the hell out of bricked phones and fixing them and selling them... the computer is decent enough and now though since my kids use it got a virus and once in a while i get the blue screen from hell. But i just reboot and fixed or run boot.

Thought I'd give an update:

This laptop has been great. Not one single issue with it. Best computer I've ever owned. It does pretty well gaming, although its no built desktop. Fingerprint scanner is one of my favorite features as I can sign into websites with it.

I highly recommend it.
