Hello, I've bought a Droid Razr M a couple of days ago but I'm experiencing issues with its GSM radio.

Let me specify from the get go that I'm an International user so that may be what causes the issue. However let me also point out that I've seen the phone being marketterd as "world phone" so it should had no issue with GSM antennas.

Anyhow, as I said I'm a new owner of the phone, I proceeded to unlock it and installed a couple of roms, but none work to my satisfaction. They were all capable of sending/receiving calls, but they had no way to know the strength of the signal and most importantly cannot send text messages (yet have no problem receiving them). I'm afraid that there is  problem with data as well but I've not tried it yet.

Through my research I found nothing saying that the phone is only partially capable when GSM is involved and that is why it comes as a surprise that it is underperforming. If there is something (that I should do) please do point it out.

Oh, all the roms I've tried are of the 4.3 JB variant (basically I've tried all the publicly released ones, but they were all a no go).

Thanks for your readership and your patience and let me apologize that my first post is one asking for help. I'm looking forward to be a "resident" here -in the future- in a different manner (hopefully less needy of help).

Well, my first thought is that you havent researched enough because we have this all over our forums.

You have a Global "capable" phone. Here in the us if its from Verizon its locked to their CDMA here in the States, and you cannot connect it to a GSM carrier here in the US. Having said that, there is a Radicomm "hack" that will allow it to connect to US GSM carriers.

For international usage, there are 2 paths: one you can get VZW's international plan assuming they are in the country you are visiting OR two you purchase a SIM in the foreign country and get connected that way. More than likely the issue you are having has to do with the APN, and that most likely needs to change for the country and carrier you are using. Often many users have had to go back to the carrier to ask what the correct settings should be.

Poke around some more, and if you get things working please repost your solution for others as we go through this issue a fair amount. :)

And last but not least more than likely you will have better luck on Stock or more stable roms than trying on 4.3

As I said I've researched so I knew most of those things, but the APN part of your post, indeed -it- was one that escaped me. I had solved a similar cases some years back but I had forgotten how damaging the wrong APN settings can be. So thanks for the heads up, I'd try this and I'll make sure to post my results.

Glad to bring back some memories :) From the many posts I have read as well, this seems to be hit or miss depending on the country and carrier etc.

Many get it all working and some can only get voice. Generally it seems to be the APN's need to be changed.

Best of luck
