So. I have an xt 912 and I would like to get back to 211 so I can eventually put jelly bean on it - it has 6.16.215 on it. I mostly use linux, and am fairly familiar with it.  The problem is, when I put it (the phone) in fastboot - no matter how I put it in fastboot (0A.74) - whether I use adb or use the buttons (pressing vol+, vol- plus power), it never shows "usb cable connected"  on the phone. Nor does it show up that linux can see it - "dmesg" never shows any USB device connected nor does anything show up in "lsusb."

I normally use a virtual box with windows xp in it to access RSD Lite from windows, but, since linux can't see it, it can't pass it over. I have installed the android sdk for linux on the machine and "fastboot devices" does not show it at all. I see there is a Motorola version, I downloaded that and it shows nothing either.

I installed XP directly on a laptop - RSD Lite will switch it to fastboot mode but it is not visible afterwards. Ohh, that worked on the vbox install too. I see in some posts there are methods by pressing a combination of the buttons as I insert the USB cable to the computer, I have tried every combination I can think of. I bought a "programming cable" but that doesn't make it visible in fastboot mode either, carefully using it in the recommended manner only.

RSD can see it in "BP SBF Flash" mode, it restarts it in fastboot - same thing.

I have downloaded utilities 1.7 - 1.9, none of them show any improvement. I have searched the net for any "blur" update for returning it back to 211. None of the updates I have found ever get passed the "version check." I would welcome one that did, that actually works. That's how I got it to 215.

What am I doing wrong?

You have USB debugging set to on?

Yes, it shows up fine in adb - mock locations and unknown sources is set too. It correctly accepts the command "adb reboot-bootloader", and the phone is rooted. I forgot to mention that.
