My work phone has a new enterprise management app and it checks for root... and it got flagged and won't install my work email system.

I was rooted on the factory jelly bean install, then took the OTA 98.18.78 system update which I thought automatically took away root. And TI backup verifies I do not have root access. So why is the work app reporting that I'm rooted? How do I fix this?

Here's a good way to check if you are still showing as Rooted, if you can beat this then you'll have no problem getting by your enterprise mgt app.

Dial ##PROGRAM and hit call

@ Enter SPC password hit: 000000 then hit verify

go to 15 Device rooting select should say Rooted or Unrooted , have fun!

Yup, it shows rooted even though none of my apps that require root will work...

Any way to reset this?

Well, two ways to do this:

Temporary Unroot: (Doesn't work on Android 4.3) Download and install

. Run it, select protect root, then click "temp unroot". Then run whatever app you need that doesn't work with root access. This works with TONS of programs that won't work with root access and best of all, it's only temporary. When you're done with the annoying app that don't like root, you can't re-open Voodoo and "restore" your root access. Easy Peasy.

Second Option: Permanent unroot: A proven method would be

. This works regardless of any device or root setup. But again, it's permanent. If you're bootloader is unlocked, you can very easily

Good Luck  :)

Well I think my problem is that I'm not actually rooted now, so those methods don't work unless I am. But the phone reports that it is rooted which is causing my issue.

Sounds like I need to root my phone again, then try one of the above methods... I'll give it a whirl tonight. Temp workaround for corporate email is web access. Go figure, you can't install the app but can still access all the same info from a web browser. Security theater at it's best.

Ok I finally got rooted for real again, and tried the temporary unroot with voodoo. ##program still shows as rooted. Also Rootchecker shows it as NOT rooted but this is not good enough for the enterprise app which must check deeper.

Reading up on the permanent unroot. Says it will not work for an insecure kernel, but that should not be an issue for me if I'm running the latest OTA ?? Also will this method just set a root status that fools Rootchecker but not the ##program report?

You're fine. You have a stock Moto Kernel. Also Unroot app will be permenant not temp so you should be good.

Worst case if that doesn't do it you may need to use the Utility to flash back to out of the box stock.

Tried the Universal Unroot app, no success. Phone still shows rooted from ##Program check. I'll try reflashing to stock I suppose... not optimistic that this will work.
