A dear friend of mine died a little over a year ago now.

His widow attempted to recover his phone's images. Unfortunately, she managed to password lock the phone after her 4th failed attempt. The folks down at the Verizon store were unable to help her get back into the phone.

The idiot (RIP Dan, but that was dumb) was saving photos to internal memory rather than the SD card. (is that a default?)

Is there any way to recover the contents of the internal memory without wiping the phone? I don't need to access the phone proper, but I would really, really like to help her get those photos off the phone. I've got experience with rooting and working with other phones, but not this one. Since this forum's helped me with my other phones, I thought I'd give it a shot here.  I have Android SDK installed as well, although the phone is not with me -- I'll have to walk the widow through the how-to myself.

Any idea how I can get those images?  Apologies for not being able to offer more detail in my post -- she can't get in to check version number, etc.
