My RAZR HD is rooted and the bootloader is unlocked. I'm running JB 4.1.1. I also have Safestrap installed. The update downloads but then fails when installing. Any ideas?

So you think removing the SS will fix my problem. I do like the SS.

If your unlocked you can use twrp which is what ss is based off of. And you Can use sams houseofmoto and flash the update.

Bummer. Might be able to help with that, but, unfortunately there's nothing more provided than it didn't work.

OK, I uninstalled the SS and tried the update and did the Temp-unroot. I even did a factory wipe and tried the OTA update. Nothing works. I'm also have issues trying to get CyanogenMod to install. I see the Spinning logo come up then I get something about an encryption error.

You've pretty much messed up your phone at this point.  Use my House of Moto or straight RSD to flash the latest FXZ and start over.  I know that's not what you want to hear, but, sadly there's no saving your data partition at this point.

What do you mean I've messed up my phone? How? My phone works fine, I just can't update the JB or install CM.

Well that's not exactly the sign of a working phone, now, is it?

Yes it is to me. The phone works. I just wanted a couple more bells and whistles.

Um, I think you're missing the point.  The phone may "work" but if you can't update or install a rom, then it's not working 100%.  In which case, I'd use the FXZ to repair it.  But you don't seem to want to do that, so, I'm not sure there's anything I can do to help.

I'm not familiar with FXZ. What is that? No I don't want to wipe everything clean. You haven't told what is wrong with it yet to make it do what it's doing? With SS shouldn't I be able use one slot to start out clean with (which I tried)?

Fxz is the "fastboot" method to restore 100% stock on your phone..."nuke and repave"...

since you mentioned that you are in fact unlocked, SS can actually hinder your progress and will not allow you to take the OTA ..... as far as using a slot in SS to "start fresh" ... no its impossible .... you can compare a slot in SS to a virtual or "fake" system..... typically what you do within a slot will not change your stock system.....

Anyway, if you want to be able to accept the official OTA, you will need to be clean stock which means you will need to wipe the phone clean.... no exceptions.

Now ... so you don't lose your data, apps, etc... there are methods to backup these things so they can be easily reinstalled after "nuke and repave"

You mentioned that you have not been told what was wrong with your phone..... what's "wrong" is due to rooting, installing SS, etc... your system has been modified and therefore will not accept the OTA .....or allow you to flash ROMs based on 4.1.2....

Bottom line is.... to be able to accept the OTA, you need to use the HouseofMoto or RSDlite to return to stock....

I do have RSD. I just need to do some looking for some files to do the "Nuke and Repave". Any idea where I can find what I need?

Thanks I found that already. I'm at 4.0.4 and it's downloading the OTA update now. If I use Fastboot do I have to install all the updates in order or can I jump to the last one?

The FXZ allows you to flash a newer version over any previous version.  So using the FXZ, you can go directly to the latest version.  Just be careful....by default the script in the FXZ will wipe the data partition.

Ok. I'm at 4.1.2 . Is it to late to root it or do I need to go back to an older version? I need some help finding a root version that works with 4.1.2.
