The battery in my RAZR is nearing its end of life, so I decided to replace it. I purchased a slightly higher capacity battery on eBay, here:
. I found instructions on opening the case and performing the replacement here: . iFixit sells the necessary tools for a few dollars, but I decided to get their full-on toolkit and anti-static mat.
Following directions, the case unsnapped easily. The back cover is secured to the top of the battery with tape, but it came off with a little effort. After unscrewing the power lead with the supplied torx screwdriver, the battery came out with some serious prying, since there is more tape holding it to the motherboard. The new battery went in, the new power lead went on, and I snapped the case together. Then I noticed I forgot to replace the tiny plastic cover over the power lead, so I re-opened the case. While I had it open, I made a loop of tape and secured the battery to the motherboard so it would not move and possibly break the power lead. I put another loop of tape on top of the battery, so it is secured just like before. And I replaced the cover on the power lead. The case snapped back together, and I pressed down on the back to seal the tape.
Done. Success! Easy. I know the battery works, but I'm charging it overnight so I can't report on capacity. If you want to revive your RAZR for another few years, don't be afraid to do this. It was surprisingly easy, and the phone was not damaged or even marked at all.
