stuck on this part. o) In your HouseOfMoto directory, create an FXZ_xtYYY directory where xtYYY is your device (xt926, xt875, etc).

what is a directory? you mean folder?

And yes, that's the right FXZ to use.  The one with maxx in the filename.

Yes, OR you are trying to flash an older firmware than what you had previously. Can't flash back.

Seems unlikely that he's flashing back since this is the xt1080 and there's only one FXZ available.  Unless you've taken the OTA already but that's what we're trying to fix due to root messing with recovery.  So, I believe yes, you need to charge the battery or use a TBH factory cable/adapter if you have one.

No, it's the right FXZ you're using.  I'm almost positive it's the battery.

My phone bricked itself by updating to the new 12.15.15 and when I try RSD, it says I can not downgrade. Sounds bizarre but it keeps failing and telling me the same thing over and over. Any ideas?

It doesn't sound bizarre.  It sounds completely normal for a locked phone.  As you now know, you're waiting for a new FXZ because you can't downgrade.
