Under the Network Mode menu label,  Global, LTE/CDMA and GSM/UMTS are shown. If I select GSM/UMTS then Network Operators I see 2 AT&T Networks and 2 TMobile networks. I select any one and it says it is trying to register on that network. Obviously it can't since SIM card is Verizon.

My question is - if I had an AT&T or T-Mobile SIM card would it then register my phone on that network?

Are you running a custom ROM?

No, not using a custom ROM. Nothing has been done to the phone as received from Verizon.

That's interesting I'm not sure if it would work.
If you were rooted I would understand if you take a look at this thread:

I do know that if you decide to switch radios and it does work your signal won't be as good as on Verizon. You will be averaging 3g speeds on GSM rather than 4g on CDMA

Prior to the steps below GSM had shown two AT&T and two T-Mobile networks (3G and 2G).

I received my Consumer Cellular SIM (AT&T reseller). I tried it and was able to set to GSM and search for networks. It came up with four networks simply  shown as network a 310 number and 3G or 2G. I selected a 2G, and that is when hope was dashed. It tried (allegedly) to setup a manual registration. That looked good since I had not yet activated the service. However, it never completed the actual connection to Consumer Cellular and eventually timed out and asked if I wanted to switch to Global and that gave me a an unknown sim card msg.

So the only thing that was accomplished is that it appeared to find the resellers network (actually AT&T) but no network name for the four choices. I want to avoid flashing since if something simple does not work it may become useless and have no value.
