I'm new to the game, but I'm wondering if you can use RSDlite to flash to 9.8 stock, unroot, then root from there?
Can you use RSDlite to flash older image while on 9.30?

Also interested to see this - I actually grabbed the older file today hoping to flash back a version. I guess you want root too...

Don't do it. It causes a world of grief for all. Too many have tried this already.

Pretty much. You still need a ROM for the device, cant just flash any old thing.

You cannot flash complete old stock images. The TZ security is still there regardless of bootloader.

Oh Roger that.
I meant within the boundaries of the phone. (XT926)
I had the chance to unlock before Moto patched it so just double checking before I set up my weekend project to catch up to 9.30.1 (still on 9.16.6) just to be safe.
BTW. Thanks for the fast response.

In the TZ (trusted zone) partition is where the security lives that will not allow backwards flashing...... if unlocked, you can however flash everything but the TZ partition.... thus allowing an "earlier" version ....

If you update to the 9.30.1 build in it's entirety, you will not be able to fxz a full stock image older than that.

Ok so If I FXZ using RSD-Lite to the latest Ver ..that becomes my restore point from there on?? No chances to go back to an older / exploited version ??
If YES.
How "one" can get to the latest version Safely??
In others words.. whats the most efficient / advantageous way to get from (9.16.6) to (9.30.1) on a unlocked phone?
Recommendations / suggestions all welcome.

On an unlocked phone, you have very little to worry about. You can do whatever pleases you.

There's a bloat free, pre-rooted, de-odexed, DST 9.30.1 on Batakang. IMO, this would be your best bet to upgrade if you're unlocked. You get very little of the Moto/VZW bloat and it's a ROM that will respond very well to tweaks, especially if you use the de-odexed version.

Hey man thanks a ton for this info. I have to update my wife's unlocked HD but did not want to go through the hassle. Now I can just fastboot the new radio and kernel and load up this DST version.

Yeah, it's a shame he doesn't, but I'm pretty sure he still peaks in here.

Actually, I'm not 100% sure it's DST because it's not labeled anywhere, but everything he's ever built has been DST.
