THE NEW MOTO - I AM IMPRESSED, HOW ABOUT YOU ?????

You Asked, We Listened: Announcing Changes to Our Developer Edition Program

At Motorola, we’re focused on delivering the best Android experiences and the best of Google services. Over this past year, we’ve worked very hard to create ways for users to express themselves using their mobile devices. Customers who purchase Developer Edition devices want the flexibility to take this even further and tinker with the operating system. This may include creating and flashing a custom build of Android or porting one from an enthusiast community. Up until now, when a customer requested a bootloader unlock code we would void the warranty for that Developer Edition device.

We are excited to support the developer and enthusiast communities by making two key changes to the Developer Edition program:

will no longer void the device’s warranty
  • We will start posting return-to-factory software images

For customers who have previously purchased a 2012 or 2013 Developer Edition device directly from Motorola and who have requested a bootloader unlock code, we will reinstate the warranty effective from the date of original purchase. (You’ll recognize these models because they come with a printed “Developer Edition” across the back and include the

In addition, recovery images (as shipped from the factory) will be posted

We hope that you like these changes. Keep telling us what you think (you can use the comments section below or participate in one of the many G+ forums such as

We strongly believe in the developer and enthusiast communities and intend to keep making changes to better support them.

Once my DNA is no longer usable I will be taking a good look at Moto again. I'm liking the early signs of the quick update to KitKat and now this announcement????? Wow!!!

I clicked to download the firmware.  They had to approve and did so in about 45 min.  The nice thing here is with their servers, the thing downloaded as fast as my download would take it.  Super fast.

Going to be interesting to see how well the firmware page is updated.....

No, you do not.  They'll get KitKat but uh that's about it I think.

And actually considering, that's good.  They  are skipping 4.2 and 4.3  and going straight to 4.4.   They could have stuck the HD and M with 4.2 or 4.3 and been just as good as the other guys.  Doing this makes up for the lack of support thus far in these two devices IMO....

Well, I guess the software can't be called "propietary property" anymore (I'm sure it will still be, to some extent), and will be able to be discussed on the Motorola forums now.  It used to be a sin to talk about the FXZs over there.  Now, hopefully that will change and some of those mods can remove their tight "panties."

Oops, just also added to platy thread. Pretty cool. Am I right to feel guilty about getting an LG G2 (considering it's all I'll get for awhile)? Not that I feel remorseful about choice, just maybe guilty for abandoning this new moto...

And no I'm not serious. It's a dang phone.

I was thinking the same thing......I still can't decide how much better the new MAXX is vs the MAXX HD...is it worth the $500 ??

It's better.... question is HOW MUCH ????

If you have the Maxx HD you might well want to stick with that.

I'm on the RAZR Maxx,,,, non HD. So for me... it will be a nice upgrade.

The x8 chip really has me loving my Droid Ultra. I went from a bottloader unlocked Droid Razr Maxx HD and ive never regretted it. It sucks having 16gb of space with no SD? But my unlimited data soothes that pain quite nicely...cant wait for KitterKatter!

I would love to upgrade from unlocked maxx hd but I still am obsessed with the ability to use a 64gb 10 card. I store so much random shiz on my phone now and I love it. I really hope Moto keeps going in this direction especially as a Google company

That seems to be the path many manufacturers have taken. Check out

I would prefer a SD card slot on the phone BUT this is an OK workaround. :)

From what I've read you can thank Google for the phone manufacturers removing being able to use a SD card. Bad move if ask me.
