I'm heading to China in a couple weeks, and will be there for half a year.  I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to networks and all.  Can I use it in China, subscribing to a chinese service like China unicom?  I know you can buy sim cards. But I'm confused 'cuz the sim card in my phone is a verizon LTE.  And LTE is not available in China (or not widely).  I know you can get a 3G sim card.

Anyway, I'm wondering... can I go to china, buy a sim card (correct size of course) and stick it in the sim card slot and use my phone?

I should add, the phone is rooted and using simplex rom... but I'm willing to change roms or do whatever might be needed.

The 912 is in fact a global phone.... you should be able to get a local sim and use it..... it may or may not work on custom ROM .... its worth trying but its not guaranteed ..... it should work on stock tho....

What John said. I went to Mexico, bought a SIM and data, but could only get it all to work on the Stock ROM. Make sure to get an APN app, and saving this URL on your phone helps:

k, so I just updated my phone to JB.16 using the tool.  I am assuming that is stock.  I should just stuck with this?  Is there a de-bloated option that would work? Or would it work with other roms based on the JB.16?

Alright, I'm in China.  I can make calls, text message... and use data, but it is exceedingly slow.   the one I bought (super cheap) when i go to network mode it shoes that it can find the gsm signal (not cdma/lte).  But the phone does not connect at 3g speed (only at our equivalent of 1x).  Sad.

I tried looking at the access point thing but i do not see how I can delete the onces that are there.  Also, the access points shown match the ones on the apn website.  Lady at the shop said my phone could only access the slowest speed, but I don't believer her.

Any help?
