Hi. I am going to be hopping into the development world ROM-wise so I have my first set of questions...

It seems we all use Hashcode's 211 STOCK base to build off of. This is great, and thanks goes out to hash for creating this. But my question for the crowd is this:

When we do a system pull, we do "adb pull system C:\SaveLocation". This in turn gives us a stock pull, but does not contain all of the framework files that Hash uses. I understand some of these are more than likely used so SafeStrap will work, but I was hoping for a more detailed explanation so we would not have to use Hashcode's base every single time we create a stock system pull to flash.

Here are the files that are not included in a typical Stock ROM pull (this is .215 for example) but yet are included in Hash's stock.

Can someone identify these files and their purpose? In an attempt to remove some of these that I felt were not needed (besides keeping rootfs stuff, etc) the ROM failed to boot. If we dump our 215 pull on top of Hash's 211 pull, everything boots and runs fine.

I am just trying to get a better understanding to what is included to make this puppy actually boot. The last time I built ROMs I was in depth with every file's purpose, so I am assuming I will be doing the same for android.

Ok I think I firgured it out. I can use that list to get any missing files from a system pull that someone will hopefully donate to me. Then I can do this. But I need that system pull. Here is the post I made:

So this is what I need. Somebody on .211 flash hashcodes 6.16.211 ( in roms section) Then upgrade to 6.16.215. If possible use this app:

and zip and send the file to me in a pm. This needs to be as stock as possible! If it does not work, then root 6.16.215. DO NOT INSTALL SAFESTRAP! It messes with internal files. Thank you for whoever can do this, you will get credits when I release It in a new thread and you will be helping the community out greatly.

  • FB'd to 211.
  • 1 Reboot to Recovery
  • Flashed 215
  • 1 Reboot
  • Rooted using Matt's 1.8 Util
  • While root, used script manager with this script: cp -R /system/* /sdcard-ext/xlwx215
  • Zipped

Uploading now (2:42pm EST) | File Size: 1,076,199,424 bytes

It is still uploading now. When it gets to Gig mark, it will be about done. CrackFlasher will tell u the file size if you refresh the page. Remember, this has all the symlinks intact, you will have to go thru Hash's edify code, and remove whatever symlinks get setup via his installer-script. Also, the phone is rooted, so you will have to remove the excess junk in xbin folder. Lastly, I would use WinMerge to distinguish between what is missing from the new 215 base, compared to hashcode's 211 base.

I am working all night. Hopefully this will pan out so more than only one developer can start making 215 ROMs.

I will be watching this thread closely because I too would like to learn how to build my own custom ROMs. This way instead of waiting around for the perfect build, I can just make it myself.

Ok I got it. I am adding in the missing files now. Where are the symlinks stored?

Updater script tells you what gets symlinked.
