AHHH help please

Ok my xt907 is unlocked and has been rooted before, i unrooted it a while back and now trying to re root and flash a recovery using matts utility. root says its successful, but when i flash a recovery and reboot i get the android with the ! over his stomach. what is going on with it. Here are my system stats: 

 

System Version: 98.18.78.xt907

 

Android version: 4.1.2

 

baseband version: SM_BP_101032.020.32.78P

 

Kernel version: 3.0.31-g101ca72 hudsoncm@il93lnxdroid84 #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri May 24 14:22:23 CDT 2013

You can't reboot and allow the phone to load after flashing recovery the first time. If you do, it replaces custom recovery with stock recovery.  You have to flash it, shut off the phone, and boot directly into recovery without loading the phone.

So use the three side buttons, and load recovery from that menu
