On 6/22 or thereabouts my droid RAZR loaded ics 4.0.4 6.16.211 I had been at BG 2.3.6 for a long time. I had refused the OTA
ics for about a week but then when I powered it up, it loaded ics.
I had many problems, POP3 Email from Comcast and Roadrunner no longer work. You have to manually download mail. Gmail push works normally. I removed the email acounts several times but no fix. My screen was REALLY slow when paging, someone gave me a transition .5X fix and that helped a lot. Verizon has sent me a refurbed phone. It too is ICS so I'm stuck here.

I downloaded Matt's 1.81 Utility, rooted my original phone at 4.0.4 and did a full back with MyBackup Pro which backs up both data AND the applications. Next I installed OTA Voodoo root keeper and ran it to save the root image? Next I want to FDR reset my old phone a couple of times and then restore all my data/apps. I will test the broken stuff when this is done.

What I really need is a step by step guide. Can I leave it rooted to do the factory data rests? If not, do I temp unroot or just run option 1 to restore 4.0.4 unrooted? Any takers out there? I will leave this old phone rooted when I'm done just in case I need to use the tether someday.

Thanks,

Mick

I'm getting you have 2 phones both on ICS but I'm not sure what your actual question is. I'd be happy to I've you step by step guides to almost anything once I know what it is you're trying to accomplish.

Ok wait, I think I get it.

You're old phone. You need to back up your old apps. I use Titanium back up pro, I'm not familiar with the one you're using.

Then plug it into a PC with Matt's 1.81 utility. If you want a clean slate you need to run option 1. This will put the phones system in a clean stock, unrooted .211. Then you can out into stock recovery and wipe data. Then you need to run the ICS root option. Then you can boot the phone up and restore your apps. I think that's what you're trying to do. If you use the utility, it's more than a FDR, it's a complete restoration of the entire system. Coupled to an FDR and the phone is like new.

tucs,
Sort of. I had to root my old phone (OTA ICS) so that my backup had root authority and it could backup all my applications and data.
Now, I have done that backup and ran VooDoo ota rootkeeper (not sure of the purpose) to save the SU? It is sitting in this condition
now. Next I want to FDR the phone to see if I can fix some of it's ics problems. The new refurbed phone is just backup in case I brick
this one right now.
It is still plugged into my pc with 1.81 running. If I have this right, I need to run option 1. to fastboot 6.16.211 to the phone. I'm not sure
what you meant by ". Then you can out into stock recovery and wipe data." Do I run fdr from the stock 4.0.4 phone in normal booted mode?
Do I need to put it in some type of recovery mode? VOL UP/Vol Dwn and PWR? that's not very clear on my end.

I need some direction to FDR and keep root in my old ICS RAZR.

Thanks

Ok, Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper is an app designed to protect your root access through Verizon's over the air updates. Thats about it. It won't help us here.

1. Ensure you have all your Motorola drivers installed properly (they come in the utility folder) and ensure you have at LEAST 60% battery! IMPORTANT!!!!!!!
2. Power off your phone completely
3. Hold down power on plus volume up and volume down keys all at once
4. This will bring you into the bootloader. Use the volume down key to highlight "Recovery" Press volume up to select
5. You will now be in Android Recovery. Briefly press both volume keys together. Use the volume keys to select "Data wipe/ factory reset" (something like that) and use the power button to select.
6. Allow it to wipe your data. When it's complete, hold down the power button to power off your phone.
7. Hold down power on plus volume up and volume down keys all at once (back to bootloader menu)
8. Use the volume down button and select "Ap Fastboot". Hit volume up to select.
9. Plug your phone in to your computer
10. Fire up the Utility
11. Now run option 1 on the utility. This this restore your system to a factory stock .211. You will lose root acces
12. Allow your phone to reboot, it will appear as though it's installing software and then reboot. BE PATIENT AND NEVER UNPLUG YOUR PHONE UNTILL IT'S COMPLETELY BOOTED BACK UP. This takes a while!
13. Once your phone boots back up, you must go into the phone menu and select "Developer Options-Allow USB Debugging" Also, go to "Security-Allow Install from Unknown sources" Then, pull down your notification bar, it will say "connected as mass storage" you must put your phone into ANY other selection other than "Mass Storage". MTP or Camera, whatever.
14. Back in utility run the Root ICS 4.0.4 option. Your phone will reboot several times.

You be be fully restored and rooted. Now you can go back into the Play store, reinstall your back up app and restore your backed up apps.
Good luck, go into chat if you get stuck, theres always someone who can help. Refer them to this thread so they know what state your at if I'm not here to help you out.

Sorry, power button, not camera button. I'm still, after all this time, stuck on my droid x. So I assume you made it through? And yes, as long as you have the drivers installed and it recognizes your phone, you're good.

Be careful rstoring data. Dont restore data to any apps that were giving you trouble or you my end up right back where you were.

Tucs,
It was going great and I was hopeful I was about done. This morning, all my homepage (desktop)? applications had been moved around and none of my contacts with pictures show up. It really seems that the icons should stay in the same place across a power-cycle.

Is there also a reason I have to configure my Gmail ID under Gmail but I can configure my Comcast and Roadrunner Emails under Email

I only use Gmail, so I can't comment on the other emails. If you download from the playstore "Apex Launcher" and set that as your default launcher, you will find that the UI is similar to GB.

Launcher for what? Email Launcher? APP Launcher? I guess I'll just have to try it. It says it's a homescreen launcher that can my ics or JB? style. JB has to be some other OS?:

It's a launcher, it replaces the basic home screen user interface. Go into menu-accounts and make sure your google account is set up and set to sync contacts

JB or Jelly Bean is Android 4.1 which just released. It's only on a handful of devices.

Thanks,

My google account is set up but sync has been down for two days. It's their problem so I probably wont' get any of my Contacts back till they fix it.

I fixed something, this morning when I powered it on, all my Apps were in the same place I put them yesterday. That's a first.
