So I'm really anxious and was wanting to know what the "Kernel" of the phone does. I know you need "specific" kernels to run different types of ROMs. I like the ROM I'm currently using and all. I'm currently on the .16 kernal.(pretty sure thats it. I can't remember the rest of it since it doesn't show It up on my phone since I'm running a custom ROM). So I was wanting to know how do you switch and install different kernals to your phone? Also if I get a kernel I don't like , how can switch back to my original kernel? I have SafeStrap v3.65 currently installed and before I put the ROM on my phone I was running stock JellyBean (4.1.2) with the .16 kernel.

Each an every ROM has its Own Kernel...Each is an adventure in its own and most are pretty Awesome...All different in many ways examples like a Blur ROM, AOKP and Gummy...all unique within its own Build...

Most of the switching is done within Safestrap in Slots to chose different ROMs or Kernels or Builds...and Yes you can get back to your ROM of Choice...Now, Safestrap 3.65 is were you want to be for the best results and solution to resolve...

.16 is the correct build and will take you anywhere you want to go...Most important READ the OP (Original Post) for correct Protocol with positive results and least amount of situations

Good luck

All blur roms run on the same kernel.  Well, all Blur roms on a given Android version anyway. They will change from one Android system to the next (Gingerbread, ICS, Jelly Bean, etc)  However, if you're running a Blur based rom that's based on Jelly Bean, it'll have the same kernel as the next Jelly Bean based rom.  The only ones that have a different one are the AOSP based roms.  The Kexec roms (CM, AOKP, etc.).  And, as far as I know, they all use the same Kexec kernel.  I haven't messed with custom kernels at all so I don't really know how many are available.  One for sure.  Might be another one or more.  Not sure.  The kernel is the brain of the computer.  Everything you do goes through the kernel before you see it happen.  Android has one, Windows has one, Linux and on and on.

You can't install a custom kernel to our phones unless you're running a Kexec rom.  The locked bootloader prevent's it from happening on anything that's Blur based.  So, if you're running a Blur rom, you get the Moto kernel.  Period.  Regardless of the rom.  If Kexec, well, then you can install another one.  You'll lose some functions of the phone on the custom kernels including the kernel that comes with a kexec rom.  HDMI is one thing that comes to mind.  More than likely HDMI will never work as it would require drivers to be written and that would be a huge task.  It's quite complicated and I don't claim to know it all but without Moto giving up some code, I doubt you'll ever see a rom with a Kexec or another custom kernel of any kind have all of the functionality of a Blur based rom running the stock kernel.
