Wifi: It's proven that having the "Wifi on while sleep" setting on improves battery life.
Do this by going into settings and under "Wifi" hit the menu button and go to "Advanced" and make sure "Keep Wifi on during sleep" says "Always". If you're using JuiceDefender then set this to "Never". It saves more battery.

I dont understand how this saves battery. Especially, if your phone is in your pocket while on the road or something.

Even if you are around Wifi....Still doesnt make sense.....I mean unless it just has something weird to do with the Android OS....

How?

Having that box checked means, that while you are connected to a wifi network and the screen gets turned off instead of going to data the phone will stay on wifi. Saving battery.

Oh so its only while you are connected to Wifi....better to leave it on wifi rather than data....

One more Q:

Guide mentions using the Hotplug govenor (shuts off one core) as well as CPU sleep app....

I can see using both might cause problems as diff components are trying to simultaneously accomplish the same task. Wouldnt that possibly pose a problem. Or do you have both working for you? If not, and it does prose a problem, which one do you think would give you more battery savings? Govenor or the CPU sleep app? Or is the CPU sleep app basically a govenor?

LOL...sorry, im working this out in my head as I type. I just think using both CPU sleep and a govenor might pose problems people might not realize. Just wondering....Thanks!

I honestly don't know, I only used that set up for a short time(Pegasusq FTW!) as I found Pegasusq, and I haven't updated the post yet. I don't think it would cause problems, but I COULD see it happening.

I read through the OP and various assorted tweaks that were mentioned. I looked through the build prop on the ROM I am on and can't find half of the setting you mention. Do those tweaks have to entered in manually? If so, how would one go about doing it?

I've noticed that Simplex and Eclipse don't have a whole lot of build.prop tweaks, but still manage to be pretty smooth, because of Nitro and EmericanX magic. Yes, if it's not there than you have to enter it maunually.

Why not just have Smartactions shut off data whenever wifi is on? Then you can uncheck wifi staying on during sleep.

I guess that could be a good substitute. In theory it would work the same way.

under the section of build prop tweaks..can you use the debug.composition.type for both the cpu and gpu? I tried that but ended up with only one line in the build.prop.

The system will use whatever is on the bottom. Because it reads it last. So lets say I have

In that case it would use the GPU because the system reads it last. It is the last defined value for that string.

So, in a battery life thread..which one would save you the most battery the cpu or gpu? I would imagine like a computer the gpu is more effecient at rendering graphics as that is its designed purpose and frees the CPU to perform calculations and run programs. Thanks for clarifying about the lines read and how..

The GPU would save more battery. Using the cpu would make the cpu work really hard.

I'm going to renovate this write up with Do-it-yourself tweaks I found and some from me. Along with updating of info and links tomorrow. Added CM10 Vs AOKP but plan to elaborate more.

I know this is an old thread. And it has some great info. But is there anything new to help save on battery life.

Thanks for the write up, it helps clear up a few questions I had.  I'm running Aviator and loving my brand new phone.  Amazed at the new life to which my xt912 has been resurrected.
