For months now we’ve been working closely with our developers and carrier partners to provide users a way to to unlock the bootloader on their Motorola Mobility device while keeping the networks secure and satisfying carriers’ requirements. And we’ve finally found a solution.
Starting with the

, users will be able to unlock the bootloader. Other products will have this option too in the future.

Sounds like great news guys! Maybe not for Verizon, but looks good for future Motorola devices!

Wow. Is it REALLY that hard to make an actual corporate announcement without some underhanded stabbing underneath the table?

Don't expect any more unlocked devices for Verizon anymore. It's a thing of the past.

Mostly AT&T and Sprint. Not much T-Mobile if I recall.

Maybe you can enlighten my ignorance in bootloaders. On my previous devices, HTC thunderbolt and incredible, the bootloaders were locked.

How were they unlocked?

HTC officially unlocked pretty much every single Android device they have ever released.

Just because of that is why I am sticking with HTC for my next device.

+1 to what Sam said. And they got S-Off from a previous leak on the Thunderbolt because Verizon forced them not to fully unlock it.

Where'd you hear that...?

HTC couldn't unlock the Thunderbolt because of Verizon, the community had to get an S-Off leak.
Google fought tooth and nail to get the Galaxy Nexus unlocked on Verizon, who now refuses to approve google OTA updates it seems.
Samsung couldn't keep the Verizon Galaxy S III unlocked because of Verizon.
Motorola locked Razr bootloader, Bionic bootloader, etc, blamed Verizon.

All of this seems to point to a pattern. Verizon is doing all they can in their power to block their new smartphones to be launched with unlockable bootloaders.

Verizon has taken the stance that they are superior to the Constitution, why would you expect them to care about the FCC?
