Your USB cable is most likely the cause.

Your USB cable is most likely the cause.

I don't think so. I already had two cables that worked fine before and I just bought a new one yesterday to be extra sure. I have tried all 3 cables. So I am assuming that they sold me a bogus factory adapter. I will send it back on Monday.

Just curious....... Do you happen to have a distro of Linux .... Or access to a Linux machine that you could run this on?..... There are times that if it fails in windblows it may run fine under Linux .........

Unfortunately, no. Any other suggestions? I haven't had this problem before with rooting, and the last time I was stuck in a bootloop.

I confirmed that my factory adapter and OEM cables all work. So if anyone else has some ideas, I would greatly appreciated it. I have a feeling that I am not using the right FXZ zip (or whatever it is called). It's the one that begins with VZW_xt907. There were five to choose from but 4 were broken. So I have been using the only one that would actually unzip.

I would assume its the exact same one..... :) it can't hurt to re-download and try again..... Beyond that, I'm not sure what else I can offer...:/

Just like that? Shouldn't there be something? Should I try doing something other than "Keep"? It seems that my main obstacle to get passed is the error message "Pre validation failed for boot". What could be causing that? Could I be doing something wrong in the House of Moto setup? Maybe a problem with Motorola driver? Although my phone says usb connected, nothing happens on my pc, i.e., the device manager doesn't open.

I see the problem.  You are not the only one to have this issue.  I'll post a solution in a minute.  I'm going to beotch slap moto.

Follow these steps EXACTLY please:

o) Download:

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

o) Copy that to your HouseOfMoto\xt907 directory

o) Run the FXZ-ScriptGenerator.jar (it's an executable jar)

o) Press the ... button and select the VRZ_XT907_9.8.1Q-94-1_CFC.xml file

o) Enter xt907 for the model

o) Press the generate button

Then try running the House of Moto again with the KEEP DATA script.

Thread for context.  I also changed it up for the Moto phones so that it can be integrated into the House of Moto, as well, so you can use this version:

The top one seems to only apply for 4.3 and also unlocked. I am on 4.2.1 and locked. Should I try the mediafire first? But since I am already up and running, should I still go to the fastboot screen? And do I just unzip the saferoot to House of Moto directory and click on .bat file when ready to execute? Thanks for your help btw. I can't wait to root again. I need to get rid of that pesky Verizon app with error code 1001 (whatever that is).

I gave the top one for context, as I said.  That means to show where it came from.  The method works on a ton of versions as it's a linux kernel exploit.  I modified it to remove the knox crap for Moto users...that's the second link that you should use.

Ok, I can be a numbskull. Do I click on run.bat or House of Moto.bat? They are both in the same directory.

Why are they in the same directory?  Grrrrr.  Just extract the saferoot-moto.zip file to some directory somewhere and run the damn thing.

You did say "integrated INTO House of Moto". Excuuuuse me for being too literal. ;)

o) If root exists for your device, add the files to the HouseOfMoto\root folder.  Make sure run.bat and/or run.sh exists.

CLARIFICATION: When I say "if root exists for your phone" I'm referring to a root exploit that has a run.bat script in order to install root.  If that doesn't exist for your phone, or your root exploit does not have a run.bat, this does not apply to you.  This is ONLY for adding an option to root your phone to the House of Moto menu as a convenience option.  It is NOT a required step.

Not nearly "LITERAL" enough...
