Recently found a university of Phoenix app in google play. A class mate said that he couldn't find the same app on his kindle fire? Any way to port that app to work on his kindle?

No I don't want to risk bricking his device. I thought I'd ask he to see what if anything could be done? I do know that if i can figure it out I'll look like a saint haha

Trying to install an apk shouldn't brick you but I understand the caution.

I had to do things like this with my moms tablet, the worst that will happen is not install the app, but it should work. Just install the .apk and all should work.

Amazon market allows install of Dropbox I believe. So you put the apk into dropbox and then install from there. My moms kindle fire was a pain in he ass before I get it loaded up with Hashcodes kernel and Jelly Bean build. Now it's awesome. This was, of course before the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and the Nexus 7. Those are probably better tablets at this point.

Okay so it sounds like this should be a pretty easy operation? I just want to be very sure I won't do anything to harm his device. Would someone be cool enough to write a fairly thorough OP for me to forward to him so I can walk him through the process? I'm kind of going into this assuming he has little knowledge in regards to what I'm trying to do for him so simple and easy would be the way to go.

By the way thanks a lot guys. If we can make this an easy and approachable solution to getting the University of Phoenix app running correctly on his kindle fire i could talk with my instructor to get it placed on their official Phoenix website, not only for brownie points, but for the feeling of accomplishment knowing we will have most certainly provided a valuable asset to the college community as well as our own. Thanks!

On your phone, download the apk. Then go into a root file browser and go to root> Data> apps> and find the app that you want to share, long press it, share, then upload to drop box and give your friend the URL. Download the apk on his device, allow "install from unknown sources" and install! Simple!! :-).

If the campus is going to support this, they would likely just need to host the APK directly. The app would either need to be setup to periodically check the campus site for an update, or the user would need to manually update. The only reason to use Dropbox like this is to make user-to-user transfer a little simpler. The Fire is just running a heavily customized version of Gingerbread, and is generally compatible with all apps for any Gingerbread device that supports tablet resolutions. The same goes in reverse, if it works on the Fire is generally will work on other devices, although some like Instant Video were hardcoded for the Fire's resolution which can give some devices problems.
