Hello all, I wanted to know if it was possible to remap these keys? I'm looking for an unrooted option, but any information (rooted/unrooted) would be great.

Thanks!

This would be sweet due to the width of the RAZR the menu button is a pain for me to reach (one handed) and I never use the search button

Sent from a device of some sort. Maybe such a new device that I only had to think it..... BAM it is here

It is actually quite easy to remap those keys. What do you want mapped?

For my use, pretty much just disabling the Search button.

I'd totally love a program that could remap and add long press alternatives to these keys ^_^ Personally, I wouldn't change the search key, I like what I use it for, however I wouldn't mind moving my Apps in the dock to the keys when long pressed, freeing up potential retail space on the homescreen.

Ideas anyone?

I would love to change the multitasker. Hold down home and choose a different mulit-tasker app.

It would be great to remap the menu button to the task switcher when ICS is fully working, so it would come right up like the GNex instead having to hold down the home key. Then remap the search button to be the menu key for apps that still need it. Again, making it like the Nexus.

I also have interest in this. I came from a D1 and the switch up of these buttons is kinda frustrating to get used to. Anybody that could shed some light?

It is actually quite easy to do. You just need to edit the corresponding key mapping file in /system/usr/keylayout/ to make the changes you want. On my Razr Maxx the file that controls the 4 capacitive buttons is named cy8c201xx.kl. To swap the key functions you just change the word next to the key number: i.e. replace SEARCH with MENU and vice versa. Make sure to backup your original just in case.

Is it possible to add a function other than swapping out the stock 4, i.e. change search to recent apps?

You can set it to any function that is defined (POWER, AUTO_ROTATION, VOLUME_UP, etc.) you just need to know the proper name. I have read that recent apps may be APP_SWITCH but I have not tested it myself. I do not know how to create a new function if it is not already defined.

That is awesome. And where would I find the proper names?

RAZR No Longer.  Currently running the LG G2 and HTC One (M8)

Time for Moto to update the line!

I generally just browse through the other .kl files to see what functions they call, unfortunately I have not seen any that seem to run the recent apps. The APP_SWITCH was mentioned on another forum, but it may only work on certain devices (or not at all). The files in /system/usr/keychars define the functions but are compiled into binary files on the Razr so I think you would have to find a way to decompile them in order to read or edit the files. If anyone finds or knows of a good list then please post it here to help the rest of us.

Thanks. Once i get AOKP setup and backed up I'll have to go digging. I want recent apps so i get that nice app list from ICS.
