So upgrade is coming along near the end of October. I was wondering I share a unlimited talk and text, plus Web with the family. When I get an upgrade do I have to pay full retail for the phone if I want to still have the unlimited plan? And it's isn't just me on the plan it is 3 others.

Yes you have to pay full retail or buy from craigslist or eBay.

It may not be as bad as you think. I have been looking into the upgrade process, and the family share program is not too bad, depending on your actual use. Personally, I never go over 2GB of data and rarely go over 1 because I use wifi at home and work a lot. The idea of unlimited data is very appealing to me but in practice it just isn't much of a factor. When I do upgrade I think I will be able to lower my monthly bill by paying only for what I use.
Another option may be going with prepaid. I read an article (somewhere online) the other day that made a good case for prepaid. There are some limitations but it can be quite a bit cheaper in the long run.

I'll likely be going T-Mobile pre-paid unless the market changes drastically by November next year. They are starting to get access to nicer phones anyways.

Do u have unlimited data? You said you share web with your family, if you're on a shared data plan you do not have to pay full retail. If you're on the unlimited talk text and shared internet, you keep that plan with upgrades. Hope that helped to clarify things up

Yea I have unlimited data. So If I wanted to upgrade and not pay full retail I would have to change my plan? Does this cost money?

If you upgrade this is what will happen:
Your plan will change to the new shares plan. They will try and convince you to change the whole family because this is what you will have to dish out...
1)30$ upgrade fee for smart phones. No way around this
2)the line access fee which is like 40 for smart phones
3) the actual plan. 70 I think is the cheapest.
So for you to upgrade it will be 110/month for YOU on top of your families plan. They will use that to try and get you all to convert.
Please correct. Me if im wrong someone. I had to translate everything to my mom a few days ago and that was the best I could decipher from Verizon's cryptic explanations.

there is no charge for the phone plan-the $70.........its just $40 for each smart phone plus whatever data package you choose to share.....the $30 upgrade is there as well

Basically with 3 smart phones with 6GB of data and unlim talk text it is about $240 a month for my family. There is an additional $10 line for one of the not smart phones on the plan as well. It was about the same price as before for us.

The problem is when VoLTE hits in a year or so, then all you talking and text will go against you 6gb of data. These plans may save some people money now but they won't in the long run.Basically with 3 smart phones with 6GB of data and unlim talk text it is about $240 a month for my family. There is an additional $10 line for one of the not smart phones on the plan as well. It was about the same price as before for us.

Figure out how much data you use. It won't necessarily cost you more money. Unlimited talk/text+2gb data=$60/month
