Thanks to BoneZ for bringing the story to my attention.

Motorola just dropped a bomb of an invite that hints at the promise of sweet new smartphones. Scheduled for September 5, the press event will be held in New York and vaguely states, "Motorola. On Display," which is down right tantalizing.

Could Motorola's afternoon festivities herald the coming of a much-rumored

or even Droid Raxr Maxx HD? Might Moto's new partnership yield fantastic nexus handset fruits? No product details were provided save a Motorola and Verizon logo, which lends weight to my Razr HD theory.

Looks like September 5 will be a busy day for smartphone news since

to hold a press conference in the Big Apple the same morning. Well as they say, "New York, New York, a helluva town!" Let us know what you think Motorola and Verizon have up their sleeves.

they are trying to out hipe apple's icrap 5. We've known everything they have been working on for months now. The only shocker for me would be giving away unlocked devices on trade in.

I have been following this topic across tech blogs. Seems like there is going to be a dual release: the Droid Razr M (mid-range specs) and I presume, the Droid Razr HD (high-end device...more on that later).

The Razr M will have Droid Razr specs but slightly updated (screen, processor, battery, etc.) while the Razr HD will be the high-end device Motorola wants you to buy. But, IMO, neither phone is worth the time or effort... The M will be good for those that don't want to get into the development side of owning an Android OS phone. The Razr HD will be a disappointment. Why? The currently leaked specs look to be underwhelming for a High-end device (think LG Optimus G

).

I love Motorola's radios and for some strange reason, I like the design. I like the industrial, hard edged design; looks like the phone is a true Robotic Droid device. But, Motorola needs to get their specs up to par with the rest of the manufacturers, otherwise they will just get pushed to the back of the line. If the rumors of Google's involvement is true, Motorola will bring out a couple of devices a year, but with BADA$$ specs. I can't wait for that...

I don't see anything special about the phones.
