I bought a Moto Razr Maxx in China recently.

A pretty good deal, so that naturally there must have been sth wrong,

The problem is, that the phone is running on a software/firmware which is customized for the Chinese market.
Which means nothing less but that big bro is watchin you.

Playstore is not accessible, certain apps like Viber can not even be installed, push email doesnt work and so on.

So I wonder if there is any chance to change the firmware of the phone. I tried to root it with a couple of different tools
but those all did not work.

I am a greenhorn for that kind of things, but I doubt that the problem is on my side only.


So is there anybody out there who has an idea what I can do right now? Would rooting be enough to change the above problems
or is a complete change of the firmware inevitable???

I read your thread over on XDA I think. You need to get different firmware on your phone. Be it a custom rom or a different fastbooted XT910 configuration I cannot say because I am not familiar with it. Better off asking this on XDA they know a lot more about GSM.
