I know this is similar to this post
but do have some more details to add.
Like the original poster of this issue, I replaced my display with a new OEM screen. Looks great, just like the original one. My phone sat for several months with the cracked screen some of the time is was on, and being charged, sometimes it was totally drained. During this idle time I believe the phone got an OTA update from Verizon.... did not pay much attention to if the old screen blinked like this or not. The old screen is now toast, after I tried to remove the glass to just replace the glass...
My issue is this, when the screen is in use (on), it turns off every 20 seconds for about half a second. Other than being anoying it doesn't really prevent you from using it.
Trying to fix the issue we flashed a stock rom on to it and in the process noticed the following:
- When at the fastboot screen, no blinking occurrs - none.
- During one of my attempts to flash the phone, we were using an outdated version of rsdlite. This left the phone in the mode where it would not boot up. To get it to boot we had to press the power, volume up/down and select "Factory". Then the phone would boot pretty much as normal. The interesting thing here is the battery icon (top right) had a "?" in it. Also the phone came up with the cell radio off. I had to turn it back on by selecting Airplane Mode and then turning Airplane mode off... then it worked. Even more interesting is while in this mode the screen did NOT blink ever. I could get emails, make calls, watch netflix, everything worked great, EXCEPT the battery would NOT charge! It said it was charging, but the % kept dropping. If you clicked on Battery to see the usage, it would say Battery - Unknown, instead of Battery - USB Charging.
I have wiped the cache partition several times. I have been able to repeat #2 above twice, same results. Biggest issue there is no charging occurrs.
Right now I'm back to normal except the blinking screen, every 20 seconds. Other than this it's perfect! Battery charges and states it is healthy.
I thought something was wrong with my new screen, but don't think so now. If it was the screen it would be doing it even during items #1 and #2 above. Also if it was hardware, it would be blinking at #1 and #2 above as well - or at least that is what I think.
