I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread based on the status of Kexec development. Whats new? Whats currently being worked on? What do you think or wish Kexec can do for your Bionic?
I for one have been extremely anxious for this to get started, and the words "unlock the bootloader" to vanish from Bionic threads. Those words sicken me since the only answer is "NEVEEEEER"! For me, it's an absolute breakthrough! The greatest thing since safestrap! So what's in store for my Kexec Bionic?? I really have no freakin clue. I'm going to presume data and cam for the roms lacking that ability. The possibilities I'm sure are endless, but who will step in when "THEE" Hash of Codes is buried in development on so many projects? Who else has his talent, and who will create the custom Kernels to make use of Kexec? I guess only time will tell....

It's sad in a way that kexec has arrived so late in the Bionics life span as a viable competitor.

But I am excited to see what kexec can bring to the table. Keep checking hashs twitter account for a new build. You know as soon as he drops something where everything works...it's going to be spawning a lot of roms.

At this point, so few people know any of the intimate details about Kexec for the targa and spyder devices. Unless you go by the name DHacker or Hashcode, chances are, you don't know a whole lot to contribute to this thread. So we're all just gonna have to hang in there.

Why is it being so closely guarded?
God bless.

They are working on stamping out all the major bugs before they do a wide spread release. Good things come to those who wait.

I just tried out another cm9 rom and now I remember what I wanted from kexec...to get rid of BT static on phone calls. So many great roms right now but can't use any of them because of that one hangup. Im sure the fix is just around the corner though.

I am not sure if the static from BT would be fixed by Kexec if it doesn't work right on stock kernels since BT is controlled by it's own hardware and not so much by the kernel itself which is what Kexec really is a way to modify the kernel on our lock phones.

Yes. This is just an issue with cm9 and Aokp. Stock GB and ics leaks have always been fine. For most this isn't really an issue to them, but I run all day with 2 phones and a headset and it's a must. Data seems to have an effect on the static on cm9 and Aokp. Data off will reduce static a bit. There is something with those builds that causes it.

Darksp33D is what I just tried. Honestly I did very briefly try one of the kexecs but never tried the BT. Maybe I will give it a thorough tonight. Guess I really don't need the cam.

It's not that it's guarded it's just that the guys who actually got it working are the only ones who are intimately informed on all it's inner workings.

Anything Kexec is on the STS github if you think you're capable of making submissions. DHacker has said he wished he had 1 contributed for every 100 kangers/downloaders/followers/ETA requesters because we'd be miles ahead at this point.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that Motorola doesn't make many of the libraries that are necessary to get the kernel working public.

If someone were to make a thread explaining how this works and how we can contribute im sure that they would get more of what they need. But as im not a coder but decent at bug finding i dont know what/how to report.. If they wantus to contribute to github thats great but teach us how..

just sayin.

Like a thread on how to work github or a thread on how to build device software on a platform base level? A thread for that would take 4 years to read cause its called college, lol. Seriously though. The guys who are developing this stuff are programmers. Not kangers and rom cooks. It's not something learned overnight.

My suggestion, start by taking classes on Java, C and C++, then you can even begin to think about how to contribute.

I dont care to code. I was of the impression.. mistakenly so aparently, that he was wanting more people to contribute constructive and documented bugs.

Actually quite the contrary. Guys like this who develop this stuff are more than qualified to test their own gear. Which is why to them, laymen such as you and I (generally, not specifically) hounding them to "test" their wares is more of an annoyance than anything beneficial. Besides, they realize 99% of people offering to beta test are only doing so to get to be the first ones with the latest gear and actually have 0 intention of contributing anything constructive (sad but true).

Anyway, what they are looking for are code contributors, not "helping hands" for the lack of a better term.

This isn't directed at you personally, so please, no offense intended.

this.

the bionic has more proprietary moto drivers and hw secrets than you can shake a stick at. throw vzw as vendor on top gg folks. webtop and hdmi mirroring / audio routing alone is worth protecting, no?

This seems to me how I might feel if I was a dev. Thanks for the interesting insight, seems logical, would like to see a dev agree with your description here.
