So my Razr is one of many having haptic feedback cutout problems. In the middle of texting, the haptic feedback just disappears altogether. I initially thought I had this fixed by booting into Recovery>Advanced and selecting "Fix Permissions". This was when I was on the first version of Arctic. I didn't have any issues with it again after that until I loaded Arctic HD. This happened with the stock keyboard, the modded Arctic keyboard and SwiftKey. I've also noticed that once it cuts out, anything that uses vibration no longer works. Reboots haven't helped.

After some searching around online, I found a thread on VZW's online support forum. One person posted that tapping the back of the phone seemed to bring back the haptic feedback. I've been experimenting with that all day, and it seems to be working... but it still cuts out. Tapping the phone always brings it back... temporarily.

At first, I thought the counterweight might be sticking. I've thought about that for awhile now, but there's something else that makes more sense to me. I'm now more inclined to believe that there is a poor solder joint on the vibration motor.

I'm an electronics tech by trade, and get solder certified every year, so hopefully (if I can find a disassembly video) I'll report back in a few days with my findings and a working phone.

I dropped my Razr two stories down onto tile and I started noticing what you described a few days later. It ends up working again when I tap the side of the device on my palm or something, so I'm fairly positive that one of the contacts isn't working 100% after my little episode with the tile. I've been procrastinating sending it through insurance because of the imminent release of the HD Developer Edition.

Overall, I'm pretty sure it's an issue with one of the contacts on the motor.

There are some teardown video's but they aren't very specific. Here is a step by step tear down that may help you. Take a look.

is it the same for the Maxx?

the red arrow in the following image shows the vibrate motor. hmmm... doesn't look like there's a lot of support for it. it could be possible that the vibrations are flexing the PCB and potentially breaking the solder joints for the motor. could be our problem.

They didn't have a tear down for the Maxx but to the best of my knowledge the tear down is exactly them same. Only the maxx has a different battery, rear cover and sim/sd card door. They are identical beyond that.

I haven't been able to do this yet because I can't seem to find my prying tools. but it's coming, I promise.
