Developer jcase has released a root exploit for Motorola devices running Android versions up to and including 4.4.2.  Dubbed "Pie", the exploit needs to be run after every reboot in order to maintain root access, and does not include the ability to write to /system, so there will be certain things that can't be done with this.  This is only for Motorola devices, and it's unknown at this point exactly which ones this will/will not work for, though Moto X users are reporting success.  Root exploits are getting tougher and tougher to come by, but its good to know there are still some dedicated folks out there who are working on it for us.  But seriously, if it hasn't been drilled into your brains enough by now, if you want full blown root access to your device in the future, BUY AN UNLOCKED DEVICE!  Grab the exploit and some more info about it

It should be noted that it was tested on the 2012 droids with 4.4.2 and it will NOT work on them. Just an FYI.

Well I went ahead and froze the updater. Looks like I am happy staying on 4.1.2. The benefit of free mobile hotspot is more valuable than an update to 4.4.2. It still stings a bit though.
