What is the file name that I need to freeze in the KitKat build? In it jellybean it was "updater" that does not exist in KK.

There should still be an updater.apk in there. I didn't look on my Razr, but it is there on my M8.

I could not find anything useful in the latest release. I tried freezing just about anything Moto and still couldnt get the update function to stop.

What about Motorola OTA? I froze that before I flashed GPE, didn't think to try checking for updates, but I imagine Motorola OTA would kill it.

I tried that and it didnt seem to work for me, so curious to see if it worked for you. And that did seem like the obvious choice to freeze....

It seems that freezing Motorola OTA did stop the automatic update checking and made the process manual by adding a check now button. Just don't push the button I guess.

I wonder what we need to freeze to stop the manual updater as well?

You know, I didnt think about it in that way and you may be correct.....it maybe that the auto-update is now frozen. Since pushing the button still worked, I assumed that Freezing did not work...in the old days, freezing broke the manual update too IIRC...still not 100% sure its all froze though.

Regardless, if your rooted or unlocked, the update would fail anyway

The "manual" update is not manual. I never pushed the button and it checked for an update on its own.

Yup that was what I thought I saw as well....being unlocked, rooted with junk frozen, I am not really concerned anyways since the OTA would fail.... :)

Maybe it attempts to connect to a server and if it gets no response, it assumes that its up to date. My Google Play Edition has no OTA support and no Motorola update apps on it, but I can still check for updates and it just says up to date.

No, because I was watching packets go across my router when I was doing it....
