My main issue is trying to get my XT926 Motorola just sent me to replace one the update fried to run the 4.1.2 OS because that's the only OS the seems to be compatible with the SMS feature of my UConnect 8.4N/RB5 system in my car. The phone they just sent is system version 0.6.25XT926 Verizon. with build # 7.7.1Q-144_VQW_S334-25. I've done a LOT of reading and practiced on my old phone which I rooted and unlocked but it's on 4.4.2. I haven't even activated this new one yet because I want to be sure that I know what to do to not be stuck with 4.4.2 again. Any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Since once again, the 926 can be unlocked..... You have the option the downgrade to virtually any system version you choose....:)

Follow this thread for unlocking and rooting etc. ..

Once I'm rooted and unlocked how do I load 4.1.2?

you would follow the same principle basically, get the sbf file for 4.1.2 use sams script generator to generate the files for 4.1.2 and then use his Universal script which will flash everything except the 2 security partitions.

Then you will also need a 4.1.2 Recovery version of TWRP which would be 2.6.3.1 I think was the last one for 4.1.2

For me personally I was considering it but decided not to bother but could easily still. :)

Sorry for the probably dumb ? but I'm very new to all this and over the past week or 2 I've read so much it's all kind of overwhelming. When I Flashified TWRP it opened a whole new UI and I didn't know if I was supposed to do anything with this or if it's just a safety feature in case I ever screw-up the phone.

TWRP replaced the stock Recovery. Now when you go into Recovery you get the TWRP UI.

You need to get the ROM you want and the associated GApps package and get them on your external sdcard (internal will work too), then in TWRP you do a Wipe, Install the ROM and Gapps and then reboot to your new custom rom, enjoy

Awesome, thanks! What's the best custom ROM for 4.1.2 that won't change the BT SMS features that are used for the UConnect in the car?

As far as that, I'm not sure which one works or not....... My suggestion..... Download a few ROMs and try each one to see what works and don't work....... There's a plethora of ROMs out there :):)
