The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) ruled yesterday that 20 of Apple's "patents" involving rubber-banding and screen scrolling are, in fact, invalid. This coming on the heels of Apple suing Samsung and skating out with over $1.0B dollars.

Remember, also, that Apple attempted to sue them in foreign countries as well, but the ruling was not guilty. It's gotten to the point that in the UK, the judge ruled that, not only did Apple have to pay back all court costs after the ruling came down over the Samsung/iPad fiasco, but they'd also have to publish a written apology in "no less than 14-pt Arial font".

The ultimate question is what does this all mean? Well, for starters this does not in any way mean that the rulings will be overturned but it's a large step towards it. The judge, Judge Koh, will have to rule whether or not to hear the case again and try to overturn it. Of course, Apple will more than likely appeal them to death, no doubt this is far from over.

Ok, without bashing Apple too much, are you fed up with Apple suing anyone and everything? Are some of their claims legitimate, or is this another ploy to get their stock back up (It's dropped like a rock this month, trading from ~700/share at the beginning of September to trading around the 600-620 mark)?

Sound off, let us know what YOU think!

all this seems to do in the end is raise costs of not only android devices as apple bullrushes everyone out there but bankrupt the little guys who want to start something simple.
I would love to see these courts cry out ENOUGH and put a final end to it the iPhone 5 in materials costs about 200 bucks and sells for 500 600 same with most android devices anywhere from 70-200 i think with the court costs dropping we may see stronger more unified devices come out that are cheaper. APPLE PLEASE PLAY NICE WITH THE OTHER CHILDREN!!!

I believe apple is having a hard time keeping up with new technology so they are starting to be defensive about their old technology. I think it week back fire and they may find themselves s thing of the past.
