So as some of you know Apple announced the iPad Mini yesterday at an event that, to any person with a brain in their head, was beyond frustrating. They constantly compared the device to the Nexus 7, carefully avoiding the ways the N7 destroys the Mini. It must have taken them quite a bit of time to do this as they devices are not directly comparable, let's take a look.

For this comparison I am going to use the new 32G N7 that has been popping up recently and compare it to the 32G iPad Mini.

Price:
Nexus 7: $250
iPad Mini: $430

The comparison should stop here. The iPad Mini is almost twice as much as the N7 for the same amount of storage. But since Apple wants to...

Screen:
Nexus 7 - 7" HD 1280 x 800 216 PPI
iPad Mini - 7.9" 1024 x 768 163 PPI

Processor:
Nexus 7 - Quad-Core Tegra 3
iPad Mini - Fake Dual-Core A5 (Threaded CPU)

NFC:
Nexus 7 - Yes
iPad Mini - No

RAM:
Nexus 7 - 1 GB
iPad Mini - None. Pseudo-ROM type memory

GPS:
Nexus 7 - Yes
iPad Mini - No

And because this really should matter to more people...

Open Source:
Nexus 7 - Yes
iPad Mini - No

I could drone on with my personal opinions and the fact that you really shouldn't be giving evil companies your money, but I'm just going to let the comparison do the talking. And yes, I know I have used almost that exact image before, but it just fits so well. Have a great day. But not better than mine.

It's funny to me that Apple said the 7.9" iPad mini fits comfortably in one hand, but said the 4" iPhone 5 would not if made wider... #AppleLogic

You guys know me and how much i love android but there are a few things that the mini has that the nexus doesn't (NOTE: i could care less about every single one of these features, but i'm sure there are some people out there that care about them)

- an option for LTE (of course, why would you need this if you can tether ;) )
- Rear camera (why in gods name would you be using the tablet as a camera anyway)

also, gotta love the Steve Jobs "Why there isn't a 7 inch ipad" recording:

Come on guys...it's Apple...wayyyy better than android...
You're paying for LESS features, Less options, LEss resolution...technology that was available in the Tomagachi's...
Apple helps you out by conveinently thinning out the stress of all that money in your wallet, and puts it into theirs. their google wallet that is.

I had to take issue with a couple of points. First of all, the A5 is just as much a true dual core design as any of the dual core SoCs in the Android world. It has the exact same ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore CPU as things like the TI OMAP4 and Tegra 2.

As for having no RAM? That's silly. Of COURSE it has RAM. The RAM is simply packaged seperately from the CPU itself. I don't even know what the hell pseudo-ROM is, but any time of ROM is way too slow to use as main system memory.

It's all good and fun to poke fun at Apple, but pointing out things that aren't even TRUE is fanboyism at its finest.

-_- The processor is threaded, making a single-core processor appear to the system as a two cores. It may be as effective or better than a dual core in certain situations, but it does not contain two physical cores. Unless they for some reason switched to a different version of the chip, which as far as anyone can tell they did not. And no, the iPad Mini does not have Random Access Memory. The memory it uses is packaged a different way. Look it up.

Come on folks, you are missing the point here. It is an Apple. Apple says it is good and you should buy it. What else is do you need to know?

The nexus 7 has no back camera and the ipad mini does. I like the ipad mini better and the screen is almost a inch bigger and the great cameras.
