Anyone else get this update? And if installed, did you lose root and your unlocked bootloader?

You'll only lose root (well, you'll lose it because you'll have to flash back to stock since rooting modifies the system partition so the OTA won't take).

You will not lose your unlocked bootloader. It will still be unlocked and you will be able to root via TWRP or CWM by sideloading SuperSu or whatever SU tool you use to obtain root.

Figured as much. I'll just block it.

I only unlocked and rooted but I was still running the stock ROM. I just checked and I still have root from before the upgrade.

  • Current Device(s):Razr Maxx HD XT926 183.46.15 Build KDA20.62-15.1

Posted 09 September 2014 - 05:58 PM

I tried to install but after it downloaded, it kept powering down.  I would restart it then it came up for a minute and powered down again.  It did this about three times.  Then it went into a CWM recovery looking screen but all it gave as options were to install or not install an "untrusted .zip".  I tried both ways and I got a failure to install the update both times.

The status of the update in the 'about' section says the update failed.  If I l look for a .zip file under CWM recovery, I get...

/sdcard/

- 0/

- clockworkmod/

- legacy/

- obb/

I have the Maxx HD XT926 with the 183.46.10 en US version

I'm pretty sure that you need to have stock recovery to install the OTA.

I am happy with my rooted and unlocked Razr HD. No Bluetooth, wifi, or sound popping ailments that have affected some of you. I have done some flashing and am still somewhat of a noob to all this. My question is, can I block this update and how do you do that? I have tried to ignore it, but it comes back every 15 minutes trying to get me to update.

OK...... plain and simple you CANNOT take an OTA update if you are not 100% stock with stock recovery.... period..... even just rooted, is NOT 100% stock........

You need to freeze or uninstall the updater using titanium backup, or equivalent app ..... (it will be labeled "Updater 4.x.x -xx" or com.Motorola.blur.updater )

Sorry...I actually knew that. Had to flash back to stock to get the KK update. Just want a way to deny this update forever. Is it possible?

Sorry John, It appears we posted at the same moment . I do have TiBu and do not see either of those apps(or any kinda similar). I do have a "ConfigUpdater 4.4.2-940549". Can this be frozen? Or should I keep digging a little deeper?

You are correct. OTA's cannot be installed via custom recoveries. Also, if you are rooted, then you must flash back to stock before doing the update, otherwise it won't work due to the system partition being modified by rooting, which then causes the OTA to fail the checksum verification which then prevents the OTA from installing.

Actually, I was rooted without having ever replaced the recovery and he OTA worked for me. It even kept root!

I do believe that's our problem child... it's the only one that fits the profile that I could find. And after doing a search on ConfigUpdater 4.4.2  I came upon this:

Freezing ConfigUpdater did nothing . Again, I don't want to apply this new update. I am very happy with my 2 year old phone and I am just looking for a way to permanently ignore/deny the new update. I know there are ways to install it and sideload SU, re-root blah blah blah...too much work. LOL! I guess I was just hoping I could find a way to just make it go away.

I also know some of you have installed it and kept root. I am afraid it will not happen for me because I have a custom Recovery(TWRP).

I also know it won't install because I am rooted, hence why I just want the damn Update splash screen to disappear! Thanks everybody!

How about "MotorolaOTA 1.0"? Can anybody tell me what freezing this file might do?
