I hope some Devs or those trully knowledgeable can tell me how locked down this device is. I am coming from a D2G so I am familiar with a locked bootloader. As it stands GB was the last official Moto release for the device, but Devs managed to get ICS working. The camera was a bit hit and miss on ICS roms. Hardware acceleration was working to some extent but then removed as it was to bit buggy. Last but not least it was stuck running a GB kernel as far as I know. All of these problems were due to the locked bootloader preventing various aspects from working. As it stands, my upgrade is coming in a week or so and I am planning on getting a VZW Razr HD(non Dev edition-don't have the funds) but just wondered if Devs face these same sort of problems with the Razr HD bootloader? I seem to recall a project to crack the bootloader on the OG Droid Razr. Did that ever accomplish anything?

Kexec is the project you're thinking of, IIRC myself, they managed to get one core running an unsigned kernel, but they never got passed that.

I have no idea how locked down it is, but if it's anything like the Razr/Bionic/Droid X/every single phone Motorola has released since the Original Droid, don't hold your breath waiting for an unlocked bootloader.

That being said, it's still amazing the amount of customization/enhancements that are possible within these restrictions (as you've seen yourself with the D2G scene), so don't let the bootloader scare you away.

I definitely understand what you mean, but scare isn't the right word per say. Plus the D4 is ancient(mainly wanted the slide out qwerty), not a single rumor of a qwerty D5, the SGS3 was to big for me, not to mention the plastic feel of the Samsung devices, the Stratosphere 2 was a huge let down to me, the OG Razr may have a strong dev community for now but what about a year from now when I still have a year before upgrade, the DNA has horrible battery life so I hear, the Nexus 4 has no LTE, hate iPhones, and I am to impatient to wait for very long. So I am pretty well set on the Razr HD. As much as I love the hearing about the new androids pushing specs, I don't need a 5Ghz 20 core cpu, with 20 GB ram, 2160x2160 Super Quadruple OLED display device, but the HD has great specs and a great dev(Hashcode-Thanks for your work on the OG Kindle Fire), and is so young I suspect Deving to last atleast a year and a half if it goes as strong as the D2G did.

That said, I am still curious about these things, and more info on safestrap. All the safestrap posts I found only explain how to install, not what it does? Is it just a second init hijack like I am used to on the D2G?

Well if it's the locked boot loader that worries you then you could always get the dev edition and unlock it?

Actually kexec runs both cores now. The current issues lie in memory usage and from Hashcode being the only dev that has put any apparent work into it (too much work for one man imo).

The project started long before the Razr HD. It started back with the OG Razr. It may have started before that, but that's the earliest I remember seeing it.
