i have proper voltage on the battery contacts and the motherboard contacts.
BiOS is up to date
All my drivers are up to date...
Device manager shows the battery controller is up to date and working properly...
Since i have already opened the case to upgrade the RAM ... warranty is void
it is an ASUS x401u less than 2 months "off the shelf" (from walmart) {gulp}

If that doesn't work, power down again, remove battery and unplug, power on with the battery removed, once windows it booted, pop in the battery and see if that helps..
Also make sure you didn't bend a battery contact and that 2 contacts are going into one slot on the battery..

Sometimes windows updates will update a driver without you knowing even when you have installed the drivers, I would reinstall the drivers, especially the chipset driver.
Version V8.930.13.6000 AMD Chipset Driver
212,19 (MBytes) 2012.05.23 update

I just wondering how i missed that one the build date on my chipset is 4 month prior to the one you put up here.... Guess i got in a hurry....
My biggest worry is i borked something on the MOBO.... Even tho i use wrist straps, rubber floor, grounded workstation, completly discharge everything before working etc etc

It's Windows, it wasn't your fault, it just does what it want's to ... If that doesn't fix it, uninstall all Microsoft Products, and install Linux

Hope all this info helps and makes sense.. You can also check a laptops safe points and watch it shut off (NOT Recommended) when you cross even a simple usb cable at points where it shorts. it should turn off the laptop and require you to unplug from the wall and remove the battery until it will self check itself and recheck for a short until its gone, before it turns on and applies power to the motherboard..
I really hope any of this info helps you diagnose.. I really think its coincidence or maybe check a ground or the wrong screw pushing on the wrong area from the cover you removed?

You can change these values on the boards with a simple COM cable while using the old telnet in windows to connect to it and change the values.. Once done, your backup battery will last the expected 15-30+ min (depending on the load of course) rather than it lasting 5-10 min before it thinks its at full discharge..
Please for anyone else reading this, please don't try this unless you know 100% you know what your doing and you are using brand new batteries.. I am not responsible if you ignore this warning.. This is info only..

Lol... That aint weird.... I dont own anything (that i can think of) that i have not taken apart.....what may be weird is I do most of it here in my truck (so when i am at home i can just hang out with the wife and kids).... so at any given time i may have computer parts scattered out on my bunk and passenger seat etc.... I have even set up a soldering station in the truck lol....

Turn off the laptop. Put battery in and plug in AC. Turn it on and let it boot. Open power options and then remove the battery for a few minutes. Then put the battery back in.
