Hi all,

Newb on this forum. I recently received a Razr M via work, and I have gone ahead and rooted it. I have also frozen most of the bloatware that came pre-installed. Now that the bloatware is out of the picture, the phone runs great. You'd think that I ought to be satisfied with the phone; unfortunately, I am now looking into the custom ROMs that have recently popped up.

I have tried the beta CM10 ROM, but I understand that there are still some bugs to be worked out. For example, NFC does not work. For that reason, I went back to the stock ROM.

I have also read some of the posts regarding the Eclipse ROM, the CM10.1 ROM, and the Trippin Bean ROM. However, I cannot tell how the Eclipse and Trippin Bean ROMs differ from the CM10 ROM, or even the stock ROM (with all of the bloatware frozen/quarantined).

If someone more knowledgeable than myself can provide a breakdown/review of each ROM, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Hello,

My M just arrived yesterday. I have been checking our the ROMs for a few days now. I don't have all the info in front of me at the moment, so I can't give you the run down your asking for. Off the top of my head Tippn Bean is bases off CM10.

However, since the RAZR M is so new, I'm sure all have their own bugs at this point. Safestrap makes it easy to try ROMs out. However it is always a good idea to have the fastboot files and institutions ready if needed.

Thanks hillmom. Perhaps I'll just bite the bullet and flash Eclipse and Trippin Bean to see how I like them.

Your welcome, even though I wasn't much help!

Regardless, I this really hard to give ROM advice. Each one ( along with the amazing dev(s) who create them) has something different to offer. The ROMs I like can differ from the ones that work best for you, because of our different needs. But that is also why I love android the the devs who tweak it!

From my end - CM10, AOKP and Blur are the different bases. Eclispe is AosP but Nitro compiles from his own source, inserting changes to the code to improve the rom, therefore it's a different base than the other three. Tripping Bean is basically the init.d scripts, build prop, and other internal tweaks that I'm applying to the diffferent bases. There will be similarities - i.e. cache clear on boot, zipalign on boot, AC!D audio, etc. The bases are very different - AOKP had most customization, but media doesn't work, CM10 offers a lot of customization and usually a bit more stable, BLUR should have everything working, but limited customization. For example, if I want to add toggles to the Blur version I have to change the code in the xmls (or ask Nitro to borrow his...). So in short, same internal features added in by me, but each build will function based on the specs of the base and Eclipse is ASOP, but unique and doesn't fit into the CM10 or AOKP moniker. Hope that helps.
