Question about system version 98.30.1

root unlock Build number 9.8 System version 98.30.1.XT907

Best Answer RikRong , 16 December 2014 - 12:58 PM

Those links are now broken. I googled "VZW_XT907_4.4.2-KDA20.62-10.1_CFC_1FF.xml.zip" and found a lot of Chinese links. But I did find a good link for it on XDA, to motofirmware.com. The links are alphabetical so it's way down near the bottom. Downloading & adding to my folder of necessary files ...

Also, for future use, here is the front page for DRDevs: http://www.drdevs.com/

Edit: Here you go, should be a good link for FXZs on DRDevs, if you need anything else in the future http://www.drdevs.com/devs/FXZ%20files Go to the full post

I'm a relative newb, having rooted only 3 phones so far (Droid2, Droid3, and GS1).

I just picked up an XT907, so I've been reading the forums for rooting / unlocking / ROM info. I see that the July 2013 update to build 9.18 is what ruined everyone's day. This date and build number is causing me some confusion, because my Razr M has a September 26, 2013 build date, but the build number is 9.8, not 9.18 (lower build number but later date than the update that permanently locked the bootloader).

So my questions are:

1) What will I be able to do to this phone?

2) What method(s) should be used?

System Info:

System version 98.30.1.XT907.Verizon.en.US

Android version 4.1.2

Baseband version SM_BP_101032.021.32.80P

Kernel version 3.0.31-gef7deb8 hudsoncm@il93lnxdroid50 #1 SMP PREEEMPT Thu Sep 26 12:38:22 CDT 2013

Build number 9.8.1Q-94-1   (it looks like a "Q" on my screen--not "0" and not "O", but I have old eyes...)

Build date Thu Sep 26 12:22:41 CDT 2013

If someone could clarify for me I would be most grateful. Thank you.

Yeah, the OTA prior to that one locked down the bootloader.  However, you can update to the 4.4 firmware that ends in .10 and unlock the bootloader.  Make sure it is the one that ends in .10 and not the one that ends in .15, otherwise you'll be stuck forever.

Here's the link for the .10 update:

Thank you RikRong. I am reading that thread now (I should be working). BTW, I just saw that someone with the exact system I have posted the same question as me, but my search for "9.8.1Q-94-1" had not found it; hence my unnecessary post!

Couple of basic questions while I read and try to become educated:

1. My phone is not rooted. So it doesn't matter if my phone is rooted or unrooted when do it?

2. My computer choices are 1) Win7 employer-furnished laptop with a locked antivirus that is probably going to block these files, 2) WinXP SP3, or 3) Fedora 20. Do RSD or House of Moto work on XP? Linux option?

Use the RSD flasher for Windows.  HoM is for non-Windows systems.  For this method, it doesn't matter if you are rooted or not.

I came back to my post to confirm that I succeded in 1) updating from 4.1.2 to

, 2) rooting my Razr M, and 3) unlocking the bootloader. Yay! It's my first time venturing past a simple root.

Now I do have a question for the next step (recovery). I've been

and

and

some too. BUT I am still unsure of the process as it relates to the files I have to download.

I want to install & use TWRP as my recovery. I want to ensure that the recovery on the phone would get me back to what I installed above (4.4.2 183.46.10).

What is the difference between these two files; how/when is each used:

TWRP_2.8.1.0_recovery-installer

-- Is this for when you aren't already using TWRP?

-- The .zip file contains recovery.img & a folder "META-INF". Does all that get installed by fastboot command? Or is this .zip intended for installation via the TWRP play store app installed onto the phone itself?

TWRP_2.8.1.0_recovery.img

-- Is this for when you are already using TWRP and just want to update the recovery image?

said to put the recovery file in my motopocalypse folder, since that already contains the needed executables, but I don't have a motopocalypse folder, because I downloaded the motopocalypse.apk and ran it directly on the phone. (It worked; I get the 'unlocked' warning at boot). So instead, I downloaded mfastboot-v2, which was linked over on XDA. Do I therefore put the appropriate recovery file into my mfastboot folder and run commands from there?

I have been trying to find answers to these basic questions, the answers for which are probably obvious once a person has completed this process once, but they aren't to me yet. Next time I'll be good to go...

Thank you for all assistance and all the cool stuff you guys have done and given the user community!

Edit: Damn, I probably should have started a new thread instead of asking another question here.

I got it. Used the recovery img only, with fastboot. All is good.

I did have one glitch:  Note the line "(bootloader) Variable not supported!". It appears that mfastboot doesn't allow you to specify the .img and just expects to find one in the specified path. Don't remember exactly the purpose for mfastboot.exe or why I ended up with it (something from XDA).

But everything worked and I already booted into recovery and did my backup in TWRP.
