What an awesome resource for hacking/fixing/owning all things Motorola.  I wish I'd explored this site before I needed help unbricking my Droid Razr HD...I've fallen victim to the apparently not uncommon boot loop/phone won't get past the dual processor Motorola logo screen.  I still have had no luck reviving the thing.

I've tried flashing a new FXZ thru fastboot using RSD Flasher to create keepdata and universal files with RSD Lite, but when I flash it, it comes back "Failed flashing process. 1/17 (or 1/15 for the universal version) flash partition "gpt.bin" -> Phone returned FAIL."

Any suggestions?

Setup and try House of Moto 4.1.  When you start flashing it will ask you if you want to flash the gpt and one other one tell it no.  The usual causes for the error your getting is trying to downgrade, using usb 3.0 port on the computer, or not using a factory cable that came with the phone.  Read the HOM OP and set it up exactly. I am guessing you are unlocked.

Hey, spainter--actually, the phone's locked.  I suspect one of my problems is I'm not sure if I'm using the right FXZ, or is being locked the problem?  My Fastboot screen reads as follows:

AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)

10.9B(*) (sha-61146a2, 2014-07-29 03:17:13)

eMMC Info: Size 16GB

Device is LOCKED, Status Code: 0

Battery OK

Transfer Mode:

USB Connected

Fastboot reason: Boot menu selected

Then "usb connected", when it's, well, connected.

I'm using the cable that came with the phone, and this antique computer couldn't possibly have usb 3.0, so it's probably the wrong FXZ.  How can this noob figure out which one's right? Or is the phone being locked the problem?

Try this one first:

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

If that one flashes you should root and unlock before anything else.  If it doesn't work try:

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

That version there is not any way to unlock or gain root acess and probably won't happen.  .15 is the latest for the XT-926 phones.

Tried the first FXZ..no luck.  Still getting fails.

Before I try the second one, what am I giving up if I select yes to "Flash GPT partition" and "Flash TZ partition"?

I have data on this phone I don't want to lose (irreplaceable photos, etc.), so I chose "no" to both options.  Should I say "Yes" to one, the other, or both?

At this point I would try with out flashing the GPT or TZ partition. If that doesn't work you don't have much choice. Either won't matter as long as you don't flash or erase the user data.
