Bringing the 3-D to the screen

By Adrian Gonzalez

No I’m not talking about the retro 90’s blue and red lensed 3-D glasses and no I’m not talking about the late 2011 TV innovation. I am talking about the latest innovation by Samsung; Youm. Announced today at CES in Las Vegas, Youm uses OLED technology to bring more vivid colors and better contrast.

A prototype was shown by Senior VP of Samsung’s display lab. The prototype appears to be a smart phone. What does this mean for consumers? Well this means a whole new branch of smart phone technology if you ask me. With a flexible display smart phones may become smart watches with the ability to take calls from your wrist (I know this sounds crazy and probably impractical). This may be the feature of cellular technology, who knows. This combined with LG’s flexible battery could really revolutionize technology as we know it.
Please comment with your ideas on how this may revolutionize technology I would love to hear!

Thanks for reading! If you guys want to see any articles written or any apps reviewed pm me or email me at

See I know you write for us now. :) I think having that technology will help a lot with the people who have a problem dropping their phones. That's all I got.

I still don't see a practical way to do this unless you can connet and disconnect the screen from a base or brain which isn't going to be flexible

I saw a show on TV not that long ago where science is working on thin flexible components such as mobo's, chips, screens, etc. What the practicallity of it is, I'm not sure but its innovations like this that pave the way for technology to advance in ways we may have never thought of.

EDIT: Now if only I had a reason to roll up a computer into a tube.

I believe they will need to find a way to make the screen be able to alternate between being stiff and flexible. If you have ever used a flexible keyboard you know they are a pain in the rear. It would be nice if when you are using it could become like a normal phone, but then when not being used it is flexible.

I don't care about flexibility so much, but it should be less breakable. Hope it saves battery juice.
