Since there is no screen, do not know what phone this is except that it is a Razr of some form. But, not an xt926M.

You can hear the phone boot up, but, no Moto logo or anything else.

What happened:

Me being the idiot I am, tried to use the 'front' assembly of this phone on another to see if that was the problem with the other one.

It wasn't, but, that's another story.

Now, this phone's screen is black after booting up. As stated above, you can hear the phone boot up.

The little black 'lock' on the wider cable is missing after so many times installing the cable.

Both cables fit nicely, but, no screen.

Could the loss of the little black strip be causing this?

Surely the LCD didn't go out because of this. It was fine before.

Any ideas appreciated.

The model number is usually stamped on the back at the bottom in a very hard to read shade of color.. Screen connections are not necessarily universal. It is possible you popped it putting it on the other device.

I thought that also. However, they were both xt926's.

Oh, I apologize. I assumed they were differing devices from how I read what you wrote. I'm not sure about the black strip. It is possible that it provides a grounding.
