Hey guys do any one of you know how to root while on the .173 update. I have tried the Voodo Rootkeeper with .148 and then update .173 but it doesn't seem to work :(

Dont think its rootable. Voodoo should work, it has for me and many others. You may have to flash back down to 748 root / voodoo, n try again. Think there is a moto recovery downgrade file out there.

Yeah they closed the old exploit in 173. I'm sure they'll find another when it comes out OTA.

But what exactly are you doing before updating?

:-D :-D

Currently there is not a jailbreak for .173 because it is Gingerbread 2.3.6 and that patched the Zergrush Exploit. And SuperOneClick. Samsung phone's with odin can jailbreak it but not Motorola phones (at least not the Razr).

What you need to do is go back to stock ( .744 ). Root .744 and do the 4ever root. After you know it is rooted downloaded OTA rootkeeper from the market and use it to preserver Root. once you got that then flash the .748 update. Boot the device and the use Rootkeeper to reroot it. After you do that and double check root is still working on .748 again you can then update to .173. After you update to .173 you will need to go back to Rootkeeper again and have to restore root and should be good to go
