Hey all,

I'm military and I made a promise to a freind to fix his bionic up to standard. He's running old gingerbread latest update and he's been having some serious problems. So, I promised to fix his phone and update it. I've tried OTA update which failed multiple times, then I tried a manual update through the recovery program and still got error 7. He's infantry and needs something that is simple and works.

When that failed I started going through his file system and found a gmail account that was not related to him and a superuser that was active and he had no idea of. Basically he has really angry exes and I just figured they rooted his phone to monitor his email and other crap. He has no gmail account but something weird was synced to his phone when I asked him and he had no knowelfge of it. Factory reset failed and clearing cache failed, even with manual.

My only other option is to SBF him to his current operating system and then update him to ICS, he's infantry and has no idea what superuser even means so I'm basically just trying to update his phone to current and make it usable for the next 6 months until he updates.

What I want to do is deodex his system and give him a stock no bloat system and move on. I just can't update the thing it keeps failing. I'm very experienced with the Droid X and Razr I just want to get this right and if I can just SBF him to the current system and load a stock deodexed rom with some benefits.

The only reason I'm asking is that I'm unfamiliar with the bionic and I don't want to brick his phone. I'm just asking for a point in the right direction. Just double checking.

Thank you in advance

The 246 FXZ can bring it up to ICS no problem. From there you can root and install a deodexed rom. You can just use RSD Lite with the 246 FXZ to restore it to factory defaults on 246. Then you can use razr's edge to root it. Then you can install your deodexed rom. If you need a hand with any of this, just yell.

i would back up his contacts. Rsd Back to that version of GB. then goto ics via the ota. did you try rsd to ics? here is a link that has all of the sbf (RSD) files including ics that is available. and for rsd lite you can find it on this site if you dont have it yet.

Don't need to do that. Just use the FXZ for 246. It'll update any version to 246. Contacts should be backed up to their google account.

Yea, I see that now. Um, I would literally write the contacts down. He's going to need a gmail account to really get the most use out of the phone. Think about the play store, for example. So this may be a bit of work, but, in the end it'll be a better situation.

No problem. Like I said, just yell if you need a hand with anything.

He's just freaking out about who rooted his phone and synced his contacts to their gmail. I told him not to worry, he has all his contacts on an old nextel he used before he deployed, it'll take awhile but at least he still has them .Wish I could copy them from a flip phone and transfer them to an android. He actually thinks its Russians...lol I told him to stick with an angry girlfriend

That part sucks. But once it's done, he'll be much better off with a fresh Bionic install and his own gmail. Sucks anything he bought or installed from the market is associated with that person's account, as well.

If you're adventurous you can use my House of Bionic for everything. Just make sure you read my FAQ before downloading and using it. I get cranky when people ask me stuff that's spelled out in the OP and FAQ. ;) However, it'll do everything you need.

If he walked into a store and bought it they might have setup the gmail to get the phone activated, just a thought... Now the super user is unexplainable
